POSITION DUTIES
Blessing Hospital Medicine general duties :
- Perform daily rounds, taking ownership of the general medicine inpatient service during assigned hours
- Perform general medicine consultations
- Collaborate with regional providers in the assistance of pre-operative History & Physicals
- Attend regular staff meetings with the medical director of the hospitalist program
- Attend / participate in the monthly hospitalist program meetings
- Attend / participate in the Department of Medicine and General Medical Staff meetings, with at least 50% annual attendance
- Become actively involved in various committees and projects as determined by the medical director of the hospitalist program
- Follow the hospitalist program policies and hospital policies on patient care, availability and medical education / teaching
- Become an integral part of the hospitalist team and be willing to provide backup as needed
- Participate in hospital call as scheduled by the hospitalist program
Inpatient responsibilities
Establishing and maintaining responsibility for inpatient general medicine service.Providing leadership and education to the entire care teamWorking with inpatient care coordinators to ensure appropriate length of stay, efficient use of resources and appropriate follow-up careProviding direct patient care to general medicine patientsMeeting with families and maintaining a presence on the unitsReviewing (daily or more frequently) all patients on your service with staff and students as neededServing as a role model for all staff and colleaguesServing as a liaison to referring providers – both Blessing Hospital and non-Blessing Hospital to facilitate the growth of the hospitalist serviceUnderstanding, implementing and teaching quality and optimum utilization of servicesAssisting in the development of appropriate inpatient clinical pathwaysCompleting and final signing all histories / physicals, progress notes, procedure notes, consult notes, subsequent follow-ups and discharge documentation. History & Physicals, Consultations and daily progress notes must be recorded in the record at the time of service. Discharge summaries must be complete and final signed within 24 hours of discharge.Supervising all planned discharges for appropriateness and timeliness, ensuring an order for patients to follow-up with specialists in one week (unless otherwise specified by specialist) and a Primary Care Provider within 2 days of dischargeWorking daily with inpatient care coordinators to provide appropriate and timely use of resources (ensuring appropriate and timely use of diagnostic and ancillary services)Ensure proper communication to the primary care physicians and specialist
