Product Development / Sales Engineer Hybrid
This position is the center point of communication and will filter between three key departments : operations, sales, and engineering.
They will act as a repository as well as an interpreter to ensure clear communication between groups can be maintained as well as documented where required.
They are a key point of contact related to sales support of all Telkonet products and services. They ensure our controls are sold, setup and configured correctly on any number of different HVAC systems.
Support the monitoring of customer systems, ensuring outages, hardware or software issues are addressed quickly, effectively, and proactively;
ensuring all questions and requests are handled immediately.
The sales engineer would be equally comfortable working on complex HVAC system controls and wiring, speaking to existing and perspective clients on the technical aspects of the Telkonet product, or performing physical surveys of HVAC equipment, consulting with sales on quote specifics and cost-based decision making.
The sale engineer acts as the engineering support, customer project support, internal company support and support escalation tier 2.
They are the Subject Matter Expert on Telkonet products, services and intergrations.
Training of the sales staff will be a paramount function of this role ensuring that our sales teams and partners are well informed and trained on not only the products and services, but the use of systems and processes required to complete the order life cycle.
Will work with director of sales on requirements to participate in weekly sales meetings to provide updates on new products and / or new capabilities of existing products to ensure sales team is up to date with the latest information.
Specifically, the Sales Engineer’s responsibilities are to :
- Assist in qualifying new project requests to ensure HVAC compatibility with Telkonet products.
- Researching various manufactures and models of HVAC units for control sequences.
- Designing relay kits and / or wire schematics for operating manual control units via DDC.
- Supporting existing customers on questions regarding setup and installation of all Telkonet controls and peripherals.
- Provide HVAC related assistance and training to entry level technical and support staff.
- Supports the development of standard processes and tools in performing tasks.
- Establishes ongoing partnership with the customer on assigned projects.
- Conducts facility energy and wireless propagation audits and determine the most appropriate product application including core Telkonet and other products.
- Works with sales, project delivery team as well as post-project M&V teams to enhance and develop best practices, by learning from successes and failures and ensure they are applied onto future projects as continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develops and maintains relationships with suppliers and vendors who offer products and solutions that support and complement the Telkonet solution.
- Remains current with relevant engineering or design standards and practices, and maintain relevant professional certifications and licenses (e.g., PE license).
- Serves as a conduit for custom engineering request.
- Assist and establish costs and managing expectations of timelines for custom engineering fulfillment.
- Driver of the compatibility matrix and its updates ensuring regular incremental additions are captured.
- Support engineering, process, process or financial tasks during the project development and solution design for clients.
- Assists in preparing submittals and other customer documents as needed. Providing post contrast design review support.
- Ability to travel approximately 50%.

- Certification from college or technical school in trade field (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, maintenance, etc.) helpful but not required.
- 4+ years in Residential / Commercial HVAC technical experience or related time in mechanical / electrical field.
- A strong understanding of industry terminology in HVAC controls and HVAC control wiring.
- Ability to be hands on both in the field and via email, phone, or other communications.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Flexible travel schedule and valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to provide clear documentation and instruction on field changes or designs.
- Strong organization, time management, communication, and computer skills.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Bi-lingual is a huge plus. (Spanish)
- ü Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of internet software; spreadsheet software (Excel);
word processing software (Word); electronic mail software (email).
- General computer and networking knowledge is required.
- Show competence in both troubleshooting network equipment and end user connection settings.
- Must have wide range of commercial hospitality HVAC system experience.
- Must have a professional, outgoing, guest-service oriented manner.
- Must be detail-oriented and work effectively under pressure while meeting all applicable deadlines.
