The Women’s Place provides family centered care to approximately 4,000 obstetric and newborn patients at UVA Medical Center each year.
It is comprised of 40 private rooms located within 8E, 8N, and 8C at University hospital. There are 4 OB triage rooms, 8 labor-delivery-recovery suites, 2 operating rooms, 12 mother-baby rooms, 13 high-risk antepartum / postpartumrooms, and a newborn procedural area.
As both a community and high risk referral center, these services are complimented by a renowned Neonatal Intensive Care unit and Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants.
The most common medical diagnosis are gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, preterm labor, placenta previa / abruption,chorioamnionitis, newborn jaundice, newborn hypoglycemia, and preterm birth.
The usual nurse to patient ratio is 2 : 1 for the operating room, 1 : 1-2 for LDR, 1 : 2-4 for MB, HR-AP, PP, and Triage.
