OVERVIEW :
In this role, you will act as a System Design Engineer for the advanced nuclear reactor projects in the area of fuel handling.
You will create and review design solutions for fuel handling equipment, structures, and systems for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor.
Candidates must have extensive experience in equipment design and qualification. Experience in equipment operation, maintenance, and fabrication is also valued.
This Engineer will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on developing the design of next generation advanced nuclear reactors and associated fuel handling equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Design of nuclear fuel handling systems and fuel handling sub-systems from requirements through final design.
- Support fabrication, construction, and testing of systems and equipment.
- Develop system and equipment design products such as requirements, system design descriptions, interface control documents, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and calculations.
- Identify and ensure effective application of correct design codes into the design of plant systems such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, ASHRAE, IEEE, NFPA, etc.
- Interface with design disciplines (such as mechanical, instrumentation and controls, civil, and nuclear) to identify and develop plant design information and specify system design and performance criteria.
REQUIREMENTS :
- B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred. Other engineering disciplines such as Systems, Chemical, or Nuclear may be considered if the candidate has relevant experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in the design of mechanical systems and / or process design is required.
- Excellent technical writing, documentation and communication skills.
- Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
- Strong analytical / problem solving skills, creative thinker.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week.
- The successful candidate must be a self-starter and possess the ability to coordinate and lead a design team’s effort with minimal direction to solve challenging problems.
- Previous experience with nuclear reactors, nuclear fuel handling process systems, or similar high-performance system or equipment design is required.
