The Teacher is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of instruction and meeting the educational needs of
unaccompanied children across various educational skill levels. The Teacher employs diverse teaching methodologies to foster a conducive learning environment and adapts content material to cater to the individual needs of students.
Furthermore, the Teacher must demonstrate adeptness in addressing classroom behavior issues, disruptive behaviors, and obstacles to children"s successful learning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Provides educational services and assessments, including curriculum building meeting Flores
standards for education requirements.
Demonstrates effective curriculum development skills by preparing lessons designed to implement and
achieve academic goals and objectives.
- Demonstrates competence in teaching through the effective application of curriculum.
- Ability to organize classroom learning and materials to maximize children's time on educational tasks.
- Assists with planning and coordinating educational activities and outings.
- Assists program staff during educational outings.
- Must be able to accurately document a child"s educational progress.
- Maintain accurate educational records in child files and UC Portal.
- Must seek out educational resources that benefit the unaccompanied children's population.
- Establishes a consistent disciplinary approach that addresses behavior issues and disruptive behaviors in
the classroom.
- Ability to modify teaching methods based on the population's education levels.
- Other duties as assigned by their direct supervisor.
SKILLS & ABILITIES :

- Knowledgeable in teaching and classroom instruction including curriculum development.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor's degree; certification by the relevant governing authority, Teaching English as a Second
Language / Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification or other appropriate
accrediting body and additional training to meet the special needs of unaccompanied children.
Experience in an educational setting.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
- Flexible schedule (evening, weekends, holidays) to facilitate program services.
- Cleared tuberculosis test results.
- Must be able to pass a drug test.
- Must be able to provide proof of required vaccinations.
- Cleared background checks from appropriate entities, including Child Abuse and Neglect and FBI
criminal background.
- Obtain and maintain CPR / First Aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be eligible to drive to facilitate program services as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
May lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds
infrequently.
- Performs tasks that may involve standing or walking 50% of the day; sitting 50%of the day.
- May bend, stoop, reach and grasp as necessary.
- Must be able to provide First Aid and CPR.
- Must be able to perform physical holds as instructed in Crisis Prevention Intervention training
