The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist (OTR).
In this work setting, COTAs (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant) aid in the provision of rehabilitative services for people suffering from physical, developmental, mental or emotional impairments.
COTAs (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant) provide OT services for patients including treatment plan implementation, patient / family instruction / education, and assist in discharge planning in order to maximize independence in daily living skills.
This position may provide direct services in the following areas : General Acute Care, Joint Center, Spine Center, and ICU.
- What you will do*
- Implementation of Occupational Therapy Plan of Care. Confers with members of occupational therapy staff and other health team members individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs.
- Completes objective measures to include joint range of motion and completes standardized assessments to determine effect of specific treatments or to assist Occupational Therapist in compiling data for patient evaluations.
- Provides appropriate treatment methods including manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercises, therapeutic activities, ADL retraining, cognitive re-training and neuromuscular re-education, to enhance physical and emotional well-being, leading toward goal achievement.
- Fabrication of upper extremity splints / orthotic devices in collaboration with OTR Fabrication, exploration or instruction in adaptive equipment used to increase maximum independence level with ADL tasks.
- Provide prescribed physical agent modalities.
- Instructs, motivates, and assist patients to learn and improve functional activities such as transfers, bed mobility, functional ambulation, and activities of daily living.
Provide patient, family and staff education in OT techniques and objectives.
- Assists in the orientation of new Occupational Therapy staff and Occupational Therapy students.
- Completes all required departmental and hospital documentation. Performs clerical duties such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephones, taking messages, and filling out forms.
- Completes department and hospital required competencies / education as assigned.
- Gathers material and supplies for individual use and cleans and returns to appropriate areas at the end of treatment sessions.

Pay : From $24.50 per hour
