JOB SUMMARY :

Completely andindependently sets up and operates the various Cold / Hot header machines in useby the Company to perform operations such as forming, shaping, cutting,piercing etc.

on various sizes and types of metal wire, bar stock etc. torequired close tolerances per blueprint or other specifications.

Operates othermachine tools as necessary to produce tooling required for heading set-up andoperation. Performs any troubleshooting or rework on work performed.

DESCRIPTION OFESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Completelyand independently sets up various types of Cold / Hot Header machines makingrequired adjustments to diameters, grip lengths, depths, etc.

to tolerances of+ .0007. Uses various support tools and equipment such as wrenches, pliers,calipers, micrometers etc. to set-up, maintain and repair machine.

Performs anytroubleshooting or rework on work performed.

2. Loadswire or bar stock, positions and secures to holding device. Verifies feedposition. Selects machine speed, tooling and other variable tasks and itemsrequired based upon most efficient methods to maintain tolerances for materialand tooling required.

3. Operatesvarious types of Cold / Hot Headers machines as required for the completion ofthe various operations necessary on the workpieces being formed.

Maintainsvisual check of work in progress to assure proper functioning of equipment.Secures necessary inspection approval including first article when required.

4. Providesnecessary counts, processes documentation correctly, and maintains dailyproduction logs using computer software applications or production worksheets.

Keeps interim records for subassemblies, material, tooling, rework, etc. whilein the cell. Uses knowledge of SPC to monitor process control and ensure thatacceptable inspection statistical results and records are maintained.

5. Readsand interprets blueprints or other documentation to determine machiningrequired and plans any sequence of operations on headers.

6. Worksas an active team member by participating in problem solving, team building,and all other team activities to improve the processes, productivity, quality,etc.

Material or ProductResponsibilities - Performs duties that requireclose attention to work and supporting documentation specifications and otherrequirements.

Responsible for accuracy of parts formed. Visually and / or withmeasuring instruments checks work performed for proper results.

Responsibility for Workof Others - Accuracy of communication is mandatory to thesuccessful production and qualification of workpieces.

Must communicate toappropriate personnel any problems or concerns regarding quality of workreceived or time flow of work in progress as it affects production schedules.

Must be able to train employees of equal or lower classification in Cold / HotHeader set-up and operation as well as on methods and procedures used by theCompany in the production workflow and tracking.

Safety Responsibilities - Good housekeeping, knowledge of good machine safety is necessary as well asadherence to Company Safety Rules.

Initiative andIngenuity - Requires initiative in solving problemsassociated with the set-up and operation of various types of Cold / Hot Headermachines and ingenuity in adapting tooling and shop aids to complete formingoperations.

Makes suggestions for improving the efficiency of work flow orequipment operation. Takes on or reports for additional work as current tasksare completed.

Performs other work-related tasks as deemed necessary by Companyneeds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :

Environmental Surroundings - Work is in amachine shop environment where noise, temperature fluctuations, the repetitivenature of job, etc.

UnavoidableHazards - Possible hazards related to cuts,bruises, finger and hand injuries, muscle strains and burns. Exposure to movingmechanical parts, metalworking fluids, heating elements and airborne particles.

Appropriate protective wear regarding eye, ear, and clothing are required.

Physical - Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Requires strength to adjust requisite equipmentto set-up specifications. Hand and finger manipulation in turningtools / valves / handles or operating knobs / cranks / buttons etc.

Most job assignments requirecontinuous standing and / or sitting for periods exceeding 15 minutes at a time.

Mental - Work at times is highly repetitive and monotonous. However, during set ups workvaries and requires use of machine shop theory.

Setups or machine repair mayrequire improvisation and ingenuity. Reasoning ability required to interpretcomplex blueprints and documentation of a highly technical nature.

Must be ableto draw valid conclusions from a variety of abstract and concrete variables.Required to organize workflow for best efficiency.

Visual - Close attention to detail with moderate eye concentration over longperiods of time. Able to read various precision instruments such asmicrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.

Must be able to visually check workpiecesfor quality

Qualifications

EDUCATION / TRAINING :

Demonstrated ability to read and write English of a level required in Companyshop documents and computer software entry and processing requirements.

Must becapable of applying mathematical operations using fractions, decimals,trigonometry and geometry as required by cell machining operations.

Generallyequivalent to journeyman trade school graduate in the set-up and operation ofCold / Hot heading machines.

EXPERIENCE :

Requires 4 years work experience or equivalent skills and knowledge expertisein the set-up and operation of various Cold / Hot Header machines, tools, andequipment which are similar or comparable to those used by the Company andwhich are necessary to fulfill job requirements.

Must have demonstrated thecapability to set-up and operate the Header machines required in the cell tothe level of journeyman.

Must have held linear and diameter tolerances to .0007, to .001 for threading, etc. Must read precision measuringinstruments such as various gauges, calipers and micrometers as well asengineering diagrams similar or comparable to those used in machine toolingoperations by the Company.
