Northwest Yeshiva High School (NYHS) is a coeducational, accredited Jewish High School, educating teens from a wide geographic area in the Seattle area and a variety of Jewish backgrounds.

About the Position

Northwest Yeshiva High School seeks a seasoned College Counseling professional with a background in independent school settings to help lead our team.

The ideal candidate will have a warm and personal approach to meeting students’ and families’ needs, and has a particular understanding of the experience of Jewish day schools, Jewish life on college campuses, or a willingness to learn.

We seek a candidate that will contribute to a culture of teamwork and collaboration, one who possesses extraordinary interpersonal and organizational skills, and who will guide families through the successful transition to post-secondary education with care.

The Director of College Guidance designs and directs a program of activities to assist students with college planning including : academic preparation for college, meeting both graduation and college acceptance requirements, college searches, school and financial aid application, scholarship searches, testing, recommendations, transition to college, and career exploration.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain successful relationships with colleges and universities across the country.
  • Meet with 11th and 12th grade students and parents individually for college counseling.
  • Review and assist students / parents with college applications, scholarship applications, and financial aid forms.
  • Write counselor recommendation letters for the senior class; manage the teacher recommendation process.
  • Plan and present college-related events and workshops for students and parents, grades 9-12.
  • Schedule and oversee college representative visits during the year.
  • Advise students on course selection and its impact on the college selection process.
  • Discuss and promote the college guidance process during admissions events.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal and / or Head of School.
  • Prepare college admissions reports for the Board of Trustees and administrative team and give an annual end-of-year report to the Board.
  • Create monthly college guidance digital newsletters and oversee maintenance of the college counseling portion of the school’s website.
  • Manage digital College Counseling platforms (SCOIR, Common Application, Coalition App).
  • Update NYHS School Profile annually.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling; Masters degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years prior experience in college counseling and / or college admission required.

  • Outstanding skills in counseling, writing, and public speaking.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of colleges and admission processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment.
  • Familiarity with and ability to use student databases / information systems, Google Suite.

Desired Additional Skills, Experience & Credentials

  • Knowledge of and / or experience of Jewish day schools.
  • Knowledge of and / or experience of Jewish life on college campuses.
