About The Position
Job Title : Surgical Technologist I Job Specialty : Surgical Services Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Nights 3x12 Hr Guaranteed Hours : 36.
00 hours per week Experience : 0-3 years License : Not specified Certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification Must-Have : - Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program, or Military Training Program in Surgical Technology - Strong communication and customer service relations skills - Excellent organizational and priority-setting skills Job Description : - Perform technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas, ensuring proper technical practices are employed according to accepted standards of the process.
- Provide proper maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques of specialty instrumentation. - Follow aseptic technique, identifying contamination and / or breaks in technique and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Conduct surgical counts and follow protocols for incorrect counts, reporting discrepancies appropriately. - Label drugs and solutions and monitor quantities used.
- Assist in the proper identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens. - Participate actively in the planning and setup of instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes to provide optimal accessibility during procedures.
- Assist the surgeon with an understanding of the patient’s anatomy and any abnormalities that may affect the procedure.
- Assist in case picking and planning of instrument needs. - Modify scrubbing procedures based on relevant information and communicate effectively with the surgical team.
- Respond to surgical emergencies and follow hospital-wide emergency management plans. - Inventory, receive, and store supplies under the direction of Surgical Services leadership.
- Identify and report defective instruments, supplies, and equipment. - Assist with restocking operating / procedure rooms and sub-sterile areas.
- Support the registered nurse during the intraoperative implementation phase of nursing practice. - Operate complex equipment and other resources in the operating room, troubleshooting as necessary.
- Serve as a mentor for Surgical Technician Trainees and will serve as a preceptor as needed.
