Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN with an active IL license for a night shift Med / Surg Surgical Acute position utilizing EPIC EMR and BLS certification.
Responsibilities
Work in an acute care hospital setting on the Surgical Acute Med / Surg unitPatient population includes post-op surgical, trauma, overflow medical cases with care needs such as dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, and pain managementUnit size is 63 beds, including private and observation bedsNurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5 on days and 5-6 on nightsThree 12-hour night shifts per week (1900-0730), with every other weekend and holiday rotation requiredSome patients on telemetry, monitored by central station monitor techs using Phillips monitorsUses EPIC EMR; experience is beneficialTravelers are the first to float within the same level of care as their assignmentResponsibilities include assessment, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of patient care for surgical, trauma, and overflow medical patientsUnit is supported by charge nurses (non-assigned) and a 24 / 7 house supervisorPatient care techs assist with vitals, ADLs, turning, and ambulation, with ratios of 7-10 patients / day and 10-15 patients / night per PCTUnit orientation includes two shifts with a preceptor and an additional shift for EPIC and professional orientationBlock scheduling may be considered with prior approvalNo specific scrub color requirement; any color scrubs acceptedNo call or standby expectationsLocal candidates are accepted, with local pay rate applied if residence is within 50 milesRequirements
Active IL RN license required at time of considerationAHA BLS certification is mandatoryMinimum of 1 year of recent Med / Surg experience requiredExperience in post-op care, critical thinking, and managing common surgical acute procedures such as wound care and IV therapyMust be able to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary team membersCovid-19 vaccination is not required for this assignmentBenefits
