Sharing Excess is a Philadelphia-based non-profit that is using surplus to solve scarcity. Our mission is to rescue surplus food from grocery stores, restaurants, wholesalers, and farmers and redistribute it to communities in need at no cost to the consumer.
We’ve rescued over 30 million pounds of food to date - and we’re just getting started. This summer, we’re expanding our operations to New York City in hopes of increasing our impact and getting more quality food into the hands of those who need it most.
Drivers will primarily do deliveries in our 24-foot refrigerated box truck. It is the driver's responsibility to safely unload the product at our partnered community organizations.
Drivers may be offered additional hours completing deliveries and are required to follow food safety protocols and deliver food to the designated community partner.
As a SE Truck Driver, you will be a regular face that our partners welcome and rely on.
Position Overview :
- Our team is on-site at the Hunts Point Produce Market Monday through Friday from 9 am- 2 pm. This job may require earlier mornings starting at 7 am depending on our delivery schedule
- Main responsibilities for this position include loading and unloading produce donations onto our truck and delivering donations to our partner organizations around NYC
- The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on a close-knit team, familiar with the streets of NYC, and comfortable driving and navigating with a 24-foot box truck in tight spaces
- You will assist with recipient relationship building through facilitating smooth deliveries to our partner organizations and be an essential part of our nonprofit as we reduce food waste and food insecurity across New York City
Responsibilities :
- Loading and unloading of produce donations onto our truck for delivery
- Assistance with picking up produce donations from various vendors in and around the Hunts Point Produce Market
- Safe and efficient driving throughout NYC to deliver produce to our partner organizations
- Amicable and kind to partner organizations upon arrival to build and nurture lasting relationships
- Basic truck maintenance and cleanliness
- Drive to the partnered organization and let the point of contact know when you arrive
Qualifications :
- Available 7 am - 3 pm M-F
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at one time
- Time management skills
- Good vision, hearing, and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal communication
- Excellent customer service
- Ability to follow rules regarding food safety and preservation
- Must have a personal vehicle or reliable transportation (Our warehouse is in an industrial area & may not be easily accessible via public transportation)
- CDL certification is a plus
- Must have a driver's license without restrictions
- Interest in non-profit / social justice work is strongly preferred
Compensation $22 - $25 per hour commensurate with experience
