A Day in the Life
Medtronic’s Plymouth, Nathan Lane manufacturing site location has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Industrial Engineer.
This position will support the Medtronic Mission for unsurpassed quality and reliability in our medical devices. Responsible for developing, advocating, enabling and deployment of Medtronic Performance System (MPS) using the tools and systems to drive operational excellence.
In this role, you will be expected to coach your colleagues to set standards, identify gaps to the standard and close those gaps through Problem Solving.
Tools commonly used include, but are not limited to DMAIC A3, Lean, Six Sigma, Project Management, Lean Transformations and other improvement techniques.
Collaborate and lead cross-functional project teams to model / simulate manufacturing capacity to develop high quality, highly reliable products for Medtronic.
Analyzes and designs sequence of operations and work flow to improve efficiencies in plant and production facilities and equipment layouts;
and establishes methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel.
Conducts studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control, and production record systems; on the basis of these studies, develops and implements plans and programs for facility modifications and revisions to operating methods.
Collaborate with Operations and Engineering to document process and touch times and ensure accurate inputs to capacity models / simulations;
identifies capacity constraints and necessary improvements based on future demand.
Daily interaction with cross-functional teams providing hands-on support and responsibility for metrics such as equipment utilization and productivity.
Lead and participate on projects to develop and deploy highly capable processes, including cost effective lean tooling and equipment.
Drive projects to successful completion using Project Management skills. Utilize technical skills associated with Lean, Six Sigma and other appropriate improvement techniques to identify and drive continuous improvement.
Develop imaginative, thorough, and practicable technical solutions to problems which are consistent with organization objectives.
Provide on time project updates, development plans, self-assessments, and successful completion of all training requirements.
Perform duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies, or governmental regulations.
May establish or assist in establishing accident prevention measures and may manage training programs for personnel concerning all phases of production operations.
May assist facilities engineers in the planning and design of facilities.
Minimum Requirements :
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably in Industrial Engineering, and 4+ years of experience.
Green Belt Certification (Internal or ASQ)
Nice to Have : Master’s Degree
Master’s Degree
BB / Master Black Belt certification
Ability to facilitate groups and teams
Expertise in Lean Manufacturing / Toyota Production System
Knowledge project management and lean transformations
Experience with problem solving using analytics such as DMAIC / A3
Coaching Experience
AutoCAD, Visual Basic

Medtronic offers a competitive Salary and flexible Benefits Package
Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD) : $92,800.00 - $139,200.00. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification / education, market conditions, and location.
