Registered Nurse (RN) Coordinator

Employment Type : Full-Time

FLSA Status : Exempt

Function

Reporting to the Director of Nursing Services, the RN Coordinator is responsible for the oversight of nursing services, including managing nursing personnel and ensuring high-quality, person-centered care in compliance with state and agency regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency and quality of services.

Oversee daily management of assigned residential programs (IRAs, ICFs) ensuring compliance with OPWDD regulations and agency policies.

Monitor individualized service plans (Life Plans, IPOP, Habilitation Plans) to align with residents’ needs.

Conduct in-person site visits across all shifts to assess service delivery and staff performance.

Provide emergency on-call coverage and respond to crises as needed.

Collaborate with Nursing, Psychology, and other departments to coordinate care.

Prepare reports, documentation, and attend required meetings and trainings.

Staff Supervision & Development

Lead Residence Supervisors and guide them in programming, staffing, budgeting, and compliance.

Provide performance feedback and oversee evaluations.

Ensure staff meet regulatory training requirements and support recruitment and retention.

Work with HR, Union, and management on personnel issues, grievances, and disciplinary actions.

Quality, Policy & Compliance

Ensure compliance with OPWDD regulations, incident reporting, fire safety, and environmental standards.

Assist in developing and updating policies.

Participate in investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Monitor expenditures for compliance with fiscal policies.

Individual Advocacy & Family Engagement

Serve as liaison with families, guardians, and community providers.

Build positive relationships with stakeholders and advocate for residents’ needs.

Budget & Resource Management

Approve purchase orders and ensure adequate supplies.

Monitor budget compliance for residents’ funds, allowances, and petty cash.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, or related field required (Master’s preferred).

Valid New York State driver’s license.

Experience

Minimum 3 years’ experience in residential services for individuals with developmental disabilities.

At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a human service setting.

Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of OPWDD regulations.

Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Effective written and verbal communication.

Ability to maintain professionalism in crisis situations and when working with residents who may display aggressive behaviors.

Other Requirements

In-person work is mandatory for program oversight and support.

Must be available for on-call duties, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Travel to multiple sites required.

Work Conditions

This role involves working with individuals with developmental disabilities, some of whom may occasionally display aggressive or violent behaviors. Employees will receive specialized training to manage such situations but must understand the risks inherent in this environment.
