Provides leadership, strategic direction and alignment of the food safety and quality assurance program across all SK Food Group facilities, and does everything possible to eliminate, reduce or mitigate food safety risk for the Company.

The Director’s primary responsibility is to ensure the manufacturing processes are executed to best in class food safety industry standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following :

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and provide direction to plant QA teams that promote a culture of engagement, high performance, and career development.
  • Execute food safety and quality programs that comply with regulatory, customer and best in class expectations.
  • Develop, manage, align and maintain the following food safety and quality assurance programs in all facilities : SQF, HACCP, SOPs, SSOP’s, pest control, environmental microbiological sampling, product recalls, test and release, label verification process, product cuttings, sensory testing, etc.

Develop, organize and administer training for all appropriate personnel in those programs.

  • Provide technical leadership across the entire organization while interacting favorably with all departments including Operations, Supply Chain, I&D and Commercialization.
  • Execute SQF plan to maintain Food Safety and Quality (formerly Level 3) certification in all facilities. Lead Corporate HACCP Team.
  • Ensure SK Food Group meets or exceeds all regulatory compliance obligations (FDA, USDA, State, Product Labeling, Weights and Measures, etc.

Monitor all regulatory agency activities and ensure the company has adequate controls, programs, and organizational structure in place to comply with all regulations.

Interface with all regulatory agencies insuring optimum support. Oversee the relationship with USDA for label approvals.

  • Manage all aspects of the third party audit process including correspondence and corrective actions with all customers.
  • Accountable for QA functional alignment with company wide goals, initiatives and strategies, including budget compliance.
  • Lead all Product Complaint Resolutions on applicable incidents. Lead non conformance process for all components not meeting specifications.
  • Lead investigations for plant incidents with root cause analysis and drive preventive measures.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects that support cross functional teams that drive the business needs.
  • Track, trend, and drive continuous improvement of Food Safety and Quality key performance indicators.
  • Drive a food safety culture within the SK Food Group facilities.
  • Lead functional area communications internally and externally to support business needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position directly leads plant Quality Assurance Managers, and other associates as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, Quality Management, Microbiology (or equivalent / related field), or 10+ years of related experience and / or training in a food or food related industry;

or equivalent combination of education and experience. MS, Ph.D. Preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

  • HACCP Certification
  • SQF Practitioner

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Broad understanding of food processing, food safety and quality assurance processes and continuous improvement, and be proficient in USDA and FDA regulatory affairs issues.
  • Expertise in GFSI standards and requirements for SQF certifications.
  • Multi plant experience in USDA and FDA inspected facilities is required.
  • Must be willing to travel more than 50% of the time.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and remain calm and professional during unexpected events. The very nature of the job is frenetic and changes at a moment’s notice.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and organizational leadership skills along with superior analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non technical audiences.
  • Strong ability to manage people in the implementation of quality assurance programs across multiple facilities in multiple cities.
  • Strong leadership qualities to include the ability to build teams and influence at all levels of the organization, a keen business acumen, professional competence and personal integrity.
  • Strong Project Management skills.
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis.
  • Consultative approach with other departments.
