ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Adhere to plant-wide safety, ergonomics and environmental requirements, defined by Amsted Rail; outlined by the Amsted Rail Health & Safety program.
- Analyze job orders, drawings, blueprints and specifications, to verify dimensions, tool selection in conjunction with Amsted Rail Engineering personnel.
- Operate all machinery as necessary (induction heating (up to 2350 F) of steel bar-stock; vertical forging machinery designed for hot flashless die forging;
closed die ring rolling machine; parts conveyor, robots, and draw line) associated with the forging of metal components for a bearing at a rate greater than 3 parts a minute.
- Setup and teach robots and loading / unloading devices and equipment for proper operation.
- Lead diagnostic efforts to correct equipment breakdowns, process and / or product deviations, and operator failures.
- Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by worn tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
- Lead operations & maintenance staff in changeover efficiency improvements including detection of equipment deficiencies
- Lead equipment operators in tooling removal efforts that require deviation from standard practice
- Inspect or test damaged machine parts, and mark defective areas or advise supervisors and maintenance of repair needs.
- Assess tooling required to support production needs. Submit requisitions for new or replacement tooling. Provide input to the Hot Forge Process Engineer to optimize tooling designs.
- Track tooling usage and improve tooling life.
- Write work instructions and process planning documentation for operations.
- Conduct operator and setup personnel training on work instruction improvements and assists operators & maintenance as required by the process, equipment, engineering, and direction of management.
- Conduct operator and setup personnel training and evaluation using best practices in developing others.
- Analyze SPC data for production runs through the company computer system and look for trends in results.
- Maintain strong communications with operators, maintenance, and supervisors.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives utilizing lean manufacturing tools and techniques.
- Perform and promote daily 6S duties.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Ability to pass on-line skills assessment
Computer Skills : Must be able to show a basic understanding of computer operations.
Other Requirements : Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
