Specialist Systems Engineer. This position will be based at our Salt Lake City facility. Position Overview : This person will be responsible for leading the production, acceptance testing, installation / fielding at customer site(s), and customer acceptance of Line-Of-Sight (LOS) communications system(s) from a technical perspective and providing technical leadership for program.
The System Engineer is responsible for the life-cycle support of communications systems from conceptual development through product phase-out, including but not limited to customer briefings, proposal writing, and customer requirements management.
This will include technical documentation, technical project management, design oversight, prototype and production build and test support, integration, verification and qualification, system deployment support and in-house technical support during the operational life-cycle of the system.
Essential Responsibilities : Systems engineering lead that organizes, participates, and manages key project / program engineering tasksLeads requirements analysis, requirements decomposition and assignment of requirements to appropriate functional areas of responsibility and / or subcontractors, and manages traceability of requirements back to customer specifications and system level derived requirementsLeads design synthesis and generation of supporting design documentation which includes technical specifications, interface control documents, test plans and procedures, and test conformance to specifications through verification cross reference matrix (VCRM)Ensures technical performance, quality, and adherence to established policies and processesDevelops and presents project / program design reviews for both internal and external customer audiencesLeads or assists in project / program schedule and budget planning, subcontract control, risk managementLeads or assists in management over systems engineering team and other teams of functional design engineersLeads or assists system integration, verification, and qualification eventsParticipation in customer request for information (RFI), request for proposal (RFP) and new business development pursuits, including on-site and off-site technical capability demonstration Required (Basic) Qualifications : Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience.
Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Qualifications : Leadership skills, with the ability to guide the technical direction / vision for a given project.
Must also be a strong contributor to integrated product teams internal and external to the company.An understanding of communication theory, with a working knowledge of digital design, RF design, mechanical design, network design, or software design of digital line-of-sight and satellite communication systems An active Secret or Top Secret US DoD clearance or the ability to obtain a US DoD clearanceExperience in requirements management and documentation is a must.
Other key skills are risk management, project planning, and technical project managementStrong communication skills (both written and oral) and formal presentation skills are requiredCandidate should be skilled in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, DOORs, or similar toolsExperience managing technical projects that include system integration, system verification, and formal qualification, including supporting integration and qualification events at customer locations
