The Intermin Director of Operations is responsible for the daily oversight, care, and maintenance of the physical properties within the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden.
This includes a wide range of facilities such as buildings, homes, restrooms, offices, food service areas, storage facilities, and the visitor experience areas.
The role ensures that all properties are well-maintained and prepared for public and private use each day. The Director of Operations directly supervises the custodial and setup teams, acts as Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed (including weekends), and plays a crucial role in contributing to the overall team effort.
The Interim Director of Operations role is Interim and to be reviewed every 30, 60, and 90 days up to the termination of this interim role on 1 / 15 / 2025.
Continuation of employment will be based on 30, 60, 90 day reviews and upon continued evaluation from our Chief Operating Officer.
Key Responsibilities :
- Daily Operations Management :
- Oversee the daily maintenance and readiness of all physical properties, including the DeGolyer Home, Camp House, Rosine Hall, Visitor Education Pavilion, A Tasteful Place, Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden, parking garage, and all associated facilities.
- Actively manage janitorial and setup teams to ensure timely and efficient completion of facility service responsibilities.
- Supervision and Team Leadership :
- Directly supervise Operations Supervisors, custodial staff, and the setup crew to ensure high standards of performance and productivity.
- Manage schedules and personnel documentation for staff.
- Provide leadership and foster a positive work environment to enhance team efficiency and morale.
- Facility Maintenance and Repairs :
- Work with management team to address operational issues swiftly and effectively.
- Monitor and schedule routine maintenance, including preventive maintenance contracts.
- Oversee repairs and construction work, coordinating with contractors and ensuring timely and budget-compliant completion.
- Address emergency situations such as weather-related issues, power outages, and plumbing or electrical problems.
- Vendor and Contractor Coordination :
- Collaborate with vendors to ensure functionality of equipment; coordinate repairs and prepare weekly reports on non-functional units.
- Schedule and monitor special projects and contractor services, ensuring adherence to budget and operational standards.
- Ensure timely installation of Holiday at the Arboretum exhibits
- Event Support and Logistics :
- Coordinate with departments for event logistics, ensuring efficient setup and execution of public and private events.
- Provide support during major events, acting as MOD when required, and handle public needs and emergencies.
- Administrative and Reporting Duties :
- Process and code invoices for payment in a timely manner.
- Conduct weekly facility walks to identify issues, prepare reports on findings, and take corrective actions as needed.
- Prepare and review reports on maintenance and operational activities with the Director and other senior management.
Skills and Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years in facility management, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Background in mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repair is desirable.
- Strong understanding of facility management and janitorial best practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; basic computer skills required.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, and respond to emergencies as needed.
- Physical capability to lift up to 30 pounds, climb ladders, and perform various physical tasks throughout the property in all weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license to operate garden vehicles.
- Willing to work weekends (required)
