Description : *Candidates must be local to Hampton Roads area of VA / Northern NC, or willing to relocate at own expense*
This position is a hybrid between the responsibilities of a Database Administrator / Developer and IT Support. Responsibilities include assisting with typical data related tasks and issues including data extractions, simple reporting requests, data analysis, and database maintenance tasks such as backups, blocking resolution, and security.
Additional responsibilities include assisting the IT department with certain tasks such as user account creation, permissions administration, and performing day-to-day IT tasks.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Data
- Supports implementation and configuration of database security architecture, software, and controls.
- Assists with maintenance in production and non-production environments.
- Troubleshooting database issues and data related problems.
- Maintaining and tuning backup and recovery processes.
- Daily use of commercial database technology (e.g. MSSQL), Open Source-Available Database technologies (e.g. MySQL, MariaDB), database tools such as SQL Server Management Studio, and Operating Systems such as MacOS, Linux, and Windows.
- Developing SQL queries and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports for data extraction, analysis, and reporting.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Information Technology
- Ability to learn new software / technology
- Strong documentation skills
- Ability to work as a team and independently for projects and issue resolution
- Must be able to troubleshoot issues with computers, servers, and networking
- Able to run regularly scheduled software updates, backups, and maintenance
- Collaborating with the IT team to implement new systems and projects
Requirements :
EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- BS degree in a computer discipline or relevant certification, or equivalent experience
- Intermediate experience as a Database Administrator or Developer (1 - 3 years)
- Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications
- Some knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, and data integrity
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Familiarity with SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server 2016 and 2019, and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
- Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Solid problem-solving skills and ability to think logically
- Open to learning new technologies and software
- Some experience in software configuration and troubleshooting
- Familiar with project management software to track progress and any setbacks
