GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION :
The Assistant Athletic Trainer, under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer and the Director of Athletics, is a key element in providing medical coverage for both varsity and junior varsity athletic programs, including a diverse population of over 500 student-athletes.
Pacific University is a member of the Northwest Conference (NWC) and a NCAA Division III institution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Assist in all aspects of administering a quality Athletic Training Program for intercollegiate sports.
- Provide care to all student-athletes including prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries.
- Proactively support students from historically marginalized backgrounds.
- Provide general athletic training room services.
- Maintain communication with Pacific University’s team physician.
- Provide medical services during practices and competitions, home and away, throughout the academic year and vacation periods as necessary.
- Assist with the supervision and maintenance of Pacific University’s medical facility for athletes.
- Provide medical consultation as requested by athlete, coaches, and parents.
- Assist with the provision of medical care for visiting athletic teams.
- Communicate on a regular basis with coaches about the status of their injured players.
- Review physical exams and medical histories for each athlete.
- Monitor pre-existing health conditions of student-athletes.
- Prepare and maintain appropriate athletic injury care records and reports as required following all NCAA, HIPPA, and NATA guidelines.
- Responsible for communicating to student-athletes and coaches the Department’s health insurance policies.
- Participate in regularly scheduled staff and department meetings.
- Follow and enforce all Pacific University, NCAA, NWC medical policies and procedures.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS :
Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer and / or Director of Athletics.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE :
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree required.
At least two years of experience working in athletic training at the collegiate level.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS :
- NATABOC certification required before beginning employment.
- Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Registered with the Oregon Health Licensing Board prior to employment.
- CPR / First Aid / AED certification required before beginning employment.
- Ability to work business and extended hours including evening and weekends.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and without supervision with a high degree of confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain pleasant, efficient and effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the general public.
- Ability to manage multiple activities and projects simultaneously.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills (including computer proficiency).
