A Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) ensures that surgical instruments, medical equipment, and supplies are properly cleaned, sterilized, and prepared for use in healthcare settings, such as hospitals and surgical centers.
Responsibilities :
- Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment following industry standards.
- Inspect instruments for damage, cleanliness, and proper functioning .
- Operate and maintain sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners.
- Assemble and package surgical instrument trays according to procedure needs.
- Maintain inventory of sterile supplies and ensure equipment is available for procedures.
- Follow strict infection control protocols to prevent contamination.
- Document sterilization processes and ensure regulatory compliance (e.g., Joint Commission, AAMI).
- Collaborate with operating room staff to ensure timely delivery of sterile instruments.
Skills & Qualifications :
- Knowledge of sterilization techniques and infection control practices.
- Attention to detail and ability to identify faulty equipment .
- Familiarity with medical instruments and surgical procedures.
- Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
