    The American Athletic Conference is accepting applications for the position of Director of Video Communications and Reporter.

    The position reports directly to the Assistant Commissioner for Communications and will serve as a member of the Conference’s communications / external relations team.

    THE ROLE AND CANDIDATE PROFILE

    The Director of Video Communications and Reporter will work collaboratively with the Director of Video Communications and Broadcast Services, the Director of Broadcast Services and Digital Programming and the Senior Director of Brand Marketing to create and distribute original video content to support the Conference and its media partners, including digital platforms, social media accounts, in-venue screens and television commercials.

    The Director will serve as the Conference’s primary on-air talent for Conference programming and will be a liaison with ESPN to support the implementation and integration of ESPN+ shoulder programming on behalf of the Conference and institutional members.

    Night and weekend work will be required. The position requires frequent travel to Conference events and championships, including those conducted outdoors in varying weather conditions.

    The anticipated start date is September 1, 2024.

    SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    The Director of Video Communications and Reporter is responsible for end-to-end creation and distribution of original video content to promote the Conference, its 15 member institutions and its 20 sports.

    The individual will manage a comprehensive plan for the creation of video content from concept to delivery to support a variety of Conference initiatives and must have strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Specific responsibilities and duties include :

    • Serve as the Conference’s primary on-air talent, including as an anchor, studio host and / or field reporter for in-studio and on-location productions of original content.
    • Develop a comprehensive video content strategy from ideation to delivery across all Conference-branded digital platforms, including YouTube, X, Facebook, Instagram and TheAmerican.

    • Generate creative assets and programming used by the Conference and ESPN for social and digital media.
    • Schedule and conduct on-air and off-air interviews with coaches and student-athletes and other ENG assets in the field as needed in preparation for Conference events and championships.
    • Produce features, profiles and other original video content for ESPN and ESPN+ productions.
    • Travel and represent the Conference at championships and regular-season events as needed to enhance ESPN productions and video coverage.
    • Assist in building of graphics for studio and field productions and demonstrate commitment to proper archiving of footage and assets.
    • Maintain up-do-date understanding of current social media trends to deliver relevant, timely and engaging content.
    • Assist in the daily operation of the Conference’s video control room and recording studio.
    • Maintain working knowledge on all pertinent NCAA compliance issues that pertain to communications / external matters.

    Experience / Skills

    The successful candidate must have a combination of a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience as a front-facing talent with a proficiency in storytelling, videography and postproduction in a number of mediums.

    The individual must have the ability to work well with a variety of constituents, including conference staff, administrators and staff at member institutions, and external partners and vendors.

    This position requires a high standard of journalistic ethics and integrity as well as discretion with respect to the handling of sensitive or privileged information.

    Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite - specifically, Adobe Premiere Pro - and experience working with YouTube, X, Instagram and Facebook are also required.
