Youth Empowerment Steward (YES) Keweenaw National Historic Park

This is a full-time, seasonal 450-hour AmeriCorps National Service position. Placement locally within Stewards Beckley, WV office, National Park Service locations, or remote options available.

Position Details
Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources.
Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.
SIPP in partnership with the Keweenaw National Historic Park are seeking an intern who will provide orientation and information to assist visitors.
Position Responsibilities will include :
- Providing information, orientation, and guidance
- Visitor Information Services / Park Program Support
- Visitor / Resource Observation and Reporting
- Data Collection and Information Dissemination
Minimum Requirements :
- 18-26 years of age (or 35 for veterans)
- US citizen or legal resident
- Full vaccination against COVID-19 by the first day of employment and ability to provide proof of vaccination before starting
- Flexibility, adaptability, and capacity to work in a fluid, changing work
- Pass background checks : all offers of positions are conditional upon completion of an acceptable check of the National Sex Offender Public Registry and Federal and / or State criminal background
Preferred Qualifications :
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Strong writing skills- content, procedural documentation
- Solid critical thinking experience and skills- scheduling, process review
- Global experience with accessibility / disability policy
- Comfortable with ambiguity and working in a fast-paced team driven and entrepreneurial
- Strong interest in a future career in natural resources, environmental science, parks and recreation, or conservation
Benefits :
- Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $1,678.57 (pre-tax).
