About The Position
Job Title : Surgical Technologist Job Specialty : Surgical Technology Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : 10-hour day shift, with hours from 6 : 30 AM to 5 : 00 PM, including 1 evening shift per week and 1 weekend (Saturday & Sunday) per month Guaranteed Hours : 40 hours per week Experience : One year of experience in a surgical setting preferred;
experience in a specialty field preferred; basic computer skills required License : Regulatory requirements for those working in Colorado to be registered through the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist, unless performing functions within the scope of another clinical Colorado license, certification, or registration Certifications : - Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association- Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing Must-Have : - High School Diploma or GED- Ability to read, write, and speak English Job Description : Assist surgical team during procedures by setting up and maintaining a sterile field with instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Use physician preference cards to identify necessary supplies and equipment, updating them as needed.- Prepare solutions and medications, properly label, and report used amounts for charting.
- Anticipate the surgeon's needs by preparing the back table and mayo stand.- Provide supplies or equipment upon request to the surgeon, nurses, and anesthesiologist.
- Assist with draping the sterile field and perform counts with the circulator before and after the procedure.- Transfer surgical specimens / cultures to the circulating nurse.
- Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique and prepare / sterilize surgical supplies and equipment.- Review and replace surgical case supplies post-procedure, discarding expired medications per protocol.
- Assist with terminal cleaning of the operating room, putting away equipment and preparing for the next patient.- Initiate basic assistance like holding retractors, sponging, or suctioning operative sites, and applying dressings.
- Communicate effectively with the surgical team and respond quickly to emergent cases.- Uphold positive customer relations through conscientious, courteous, and caring interactions.
- Ensure adherence to department procedures and acceptable protocols, and report any issues promptly.- Participate in quality improvement and professional development activities.
This job allows for floating to other locations within a specified radius and may include duties outside the original job requirements.
Adaptability to changing technologies, policies, regulations, and staffing needs is essential.
