The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and optimization of manufacturing processes.
This role ensures that the company’s production systems operate efficiently and effectively while meeting safety, quality, and cost objectives.
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager works closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to drive continuous improvement, support new product launches, and implement lean manufacturing principles.
Key Responsibilities :
- Process Development and Optimization :
- Lead the development, testing, and implementation of new manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Monitor and improve existing manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles to minimize costs and maximize quality.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration :
- Work closely with production, quality, maintenance, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth manufacturing operations.
- Collaborate with product design teams to ensure manufacturability of new products.
- Provide technical expertise and support to resolve production issues and optimize throughput.
- Continuous Improvement :
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.
- Utilize Six Sigma, Lean, and other problem-solving methodologies to drive process improvements and eliminate waste.
- Develop and implement systems to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cycle time, downtime, and defect rates.
- Leadership and Team Management :
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of manufacturing engineers and technicians.
- Establish goals and objectives for the engineering team and ensure alignment with overall company objectives.
- Ensure staff is trained and competent in manufacturing best practices, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance.
- Project Management :
- Plan and manage capital improvement projects, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment.
- Manage engineering change processes and ensure all changes are effectively communicated and implemented.
- Safety and Compliance :
- Ensure that manufacturing processes comply with safety regulations and standards.
- Collaborate with safety teams to minimize risks and enhance workplace safety.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations.
- Budget and Cost Control :
- Develop and manage the engineering budget, including capital expenditures and operating costs.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through process improvements, equipment upgrades, and energy efficiency measures. Qualifications :
- Education :
- Education :
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Master’s degree in Engineering or MBA is a plus.
- Experience :
- 7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with 3+ years in a managerial role.
- Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments (automotive, aerospace, electronics, etc.).
- Proven experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Skills :
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in CAD software and familiarity with manufacturing automation and robotics.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
