Overview

The Assistant / Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Administration serves as the Chief Student Services Officer for Touro College of Pharmacy (TCOP), reporting to the TCOP Dean.

This entails oversight of all customer facing positions, such as student services, mental health counseling, disability services, as well as interfacing with and serving as TCOP’s liaison to the Library, Registrar, Bursar, Financial Aid, Facilities, Security, Food Service, Student Insurance, and their support personnel.

The Assistant / Associate Dean for Student Affairs hires, trains, and supervises the Office of Student Affairs staff, including the Mental Health Counselor / Director of Wellness, the Director of Student Services, Proctors, and other support staff as Assistant / Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Administration will oversee administrative operations functions at TCOP, and collaborates with the Dean to develop operational strategies and is charged with facilitating these efforts across TCOP units.

Through a respectful, constructive and energetic style, guided by the objectives of TCOP, the Assistant / Associate Dean provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the college has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency.

An academic appointment may be offered based on teaching experience at the medical, pharmacy or graduate school level.

Responsibilities

Collaborates with the Dean and Office of Academic Affairs to interpret and enforce academic policies and procedures as they pertain to the college;

monitors and administers processes. Assist with individual student academic standing and progress as appropriate to include probations, suspensions, promotions, leaves of absence, withdrawals, readmissions and special needs (loans) and accommodations.

  • Catalyzes the enhancements of a professional and respectful campus environment, promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement, and conducts programs that promote enjoyment, personal development, leadership opportunities, and academic success of all enrolled students.
  • Collaborates with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives and strategic plan of TCOP.
  • Stays current, formulates, interprets, implements and monitors federal, state, ACPE and TCOP policies, rules and regulations related to students, student services, and student activities.
  • Ensures advisement, planning, direction, and supervision of student programs, student government elections, student representation on TCOP committees, student organizations, student academic advisement, at-risk student advisement, and student complaints.
  • Reviews, updates, and adjudicates TCOP's Academic Integrity and other student disciplinary matters consistent with Touro College policy and the TCOP CATALOG.
  • Oversees and updates the TCOP Catalog, and the production / dissemination of a weekly newsletter with a calendar of college events, important college / pharmacy news, and faculty and student accolades.
  • Represents the organization externally at the local, state, and national levels, as needed.
  • Maintains a listing of all college organizations, student leaders, and faculty advisors and monitors / updates documentation of same.
  • Leads efforts and collaboration with student leaders to design the Student’s Graduation Yearbook.
  • Manages the Dean’s Open Forums including recruiting speakers, as needed.
  • Oversees college honors, awards, and scholarships for students.
  • Assists in the upgrade / improvement of campus services and facilities such as food service, study areas, library, recreational programs, security, and participate on all facilities and security committees.
  • Responsible for overseeing special events and programs including New Student Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, Commencement, and the Awards Banquet.
  • Engage in limited teaching within the PharmD and / or CE curricula.
  • Responsible for the TCOP student affairs budget.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned by the Dean.

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • The Assistant / Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Administration should have a PharmD plus post-graduate residency or fellowship training or equivalent experience and is a licensed pharmacist.
  • An earned PhD with a concentration in one of the biomedical sciences, educational, or behavioral sciences and is a licensed pharmacist will also be considered.
  • Peer-reviewed publications commensurate with rank.
  • Academic administrative experience, preferably in student services and / or academic program planning, development, and implementation.
  • Experience in administration, including budget management, policy development, and program development is preferred.
  • A track record of leadership and collegiality.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • A high degree of interpersonal competency : professionalism, diplomacy, judgement and discretion. Required
  • A demonstrated record of academic teaching and professional service and the leadership skills necessary to promote these qualities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the enthusiasm and motivation to contribute to the growth and development of the College of Pharmacy.
