Direct Support Professional

Qualifications :

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must have a driver’s license valid in the state of New Jersey

High School diploma or equivalency

One year related experience working with persons with disabilities preferred

Must submit to a criminal background check, and be determined to be not disqualified by the Department of Human Services prior to hire.

Must agree to have name checked against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities

All employees hired after 6 / 15 / 18 shall submit to drug testing prior to employment All employees shall submit to drug testing conducted randomly and for cause.

All employees hired after 7 / 16 / 18 shall complete an application to have their name checked against the Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI)

Required Skills :

• Strong verbal, communication and documentation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with DDD community, families, colleagues, supervisors, and agency personnel;
• Physical ability to fulfill job requirements (able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds without accom m odation )

Duties :

The Direct Support Professional is responsible for providing direct services to the individuals residing in the Residential Program. This includes providing supervision and / or assistance with personal care, daily living activities, recreational pursuits, transportation, medical appointments, or any other needs the individuals supported by the program may require. The Direct Support Professional will complete required daily documentation for all services provided.
