Position Summary :
Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Rehabilitation Services, evaluates each patient referred, completing a full initial evaluation appropriate to patient’s diagnosis according to established procedure and physician order.
Services are provided according to hospital and departmental policies and procedures and in compliance with regulatory standards.
Rehabilitation aides. Provides clinical supervision to affiliating students under guidelines established by the participating educational institutions.
May participate in the mentoring program.

Responsibilities :
- Completes a full age-specific initial evaluation on each patient referred, appropriate to patient diagnosis, according to established procedure and physician order.
- Instructs and assists patients in a variety of sensory, educational and functional activities. Teaches patient skills and techniques required for participation in ADLS, utilizing techniques specific for age group service.
- Reassess and recommends modification of treatment plan and goals. Responds to changes in the physical and mental status of patients and to any deviation in the anticipated rate of progress.
- Performs and assists patients through treatment programs utilizing available modalities according to written procedures and utilizing techniques specific to age group services.
- Recommends, measures and fabricates, where appropriate, hand splints, braces, and other adaptive devices per physician orders and instructs patients on their use.
- Meets with the member of the patient’s case team in development and implementation of assessments care plans and discharge planning.
- Instructs patient care staff in therapeutic techniques and equipment to facilitate the carryover of therapy plan in daily activities
- Provides ongoing patient, family, caregiver education.
- Performs other duties and required or assigned.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / APTITUDE / EXPERIENCE :
- Gives direction and assistance to COTA's, department aides and students
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, physicians, other associates, outside agencies and vendors.
Education / Experience / Licenses / Technical / Other :
- Education : High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an approved School of Occupational Therapy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Experience : Previous experience is not required. Requires a minimum of one year on the job to be proficient in duties.
