Position Description :

The Department of Criminology at the University of South Florida (USF) in St. Petersburg invites applications for one twelve-month contract non-tenure track Visiting Instructor or Assistant Professor of Instruction position to begin December 20th, 2024 through Spring 2026.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must possess a M.A. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related discipline by the date of appointment.

The successful candidate must be able to teach the core courses within the department as well as electives within the undergraduate program.

Teaching load will be 4 / 4 / 2 with a combination of in-person and online courses on the USF St. Petersburg campus.

Minimum Qualifications :

M.A. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related discipline from an acredited institution (to be considered for Instructor position);

or Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related discipline from an acredited institution (to be considered for Assistant Professor of Instruction position).

  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
  • Evidence of having taught undergraduate criminology or criminal justice courses

Criteria for the evaluation of candidates :

To ensure the fair and equitable evaluation of all candidates, the following criteria will be used in reviewing the applicants' qualifications.

Ranges for rating the criteria are weighted in terms of importance to the position. Selected candidates may be expected to submit pre-recorded teaching demonstration or conduct a live teaching demonstration and / or teaching portfolio during the interview process.

  • Cover letter addressing your teaching philosophy or relevant teaching experience.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness (student or peer evaluations of teaching).
  • The names and contact information for three recommenders (finalists will be expected to have letters submitted by October 14th, 2024).
