- Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse, performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient using the nursing process.
- Provides input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care.
- Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures. Recognizes and participates in own continuing education.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Enrolled in an accredited school of nursing (BSN schools preferred).
- The completion of two clinical rotations, one of which must be Med / Surg (in an acute care setting).
- To remain in the extern role you MUST : Actively be enrolled in a nursing program; Successfully complete each course; Provide transcripts to Nurse Manager after each course;
Provide a copy of your plan of work to your Nurse Manager.
- If at any point the extern does not meet their academic institution's standard for continued enrollment in the school of nursing classes, their employment as an extern will be rescinded.
- BLS Healthcare provider to be completed during orientation.
- Physical ability to lift and move patients, supplies, and equipment with appropriate technique / device.
- Successful completion of -day introductory period required to achieve knowledge of policies relative to job duties and patient care unit.
