Job Description

AHRC New York City is seeking Per-Diem Direct Support Professionals (DSP) for our Day Programs in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx .

The salary for this position is between $17-$18 per hour depending on driving status. This position has the potential to become Full-Time with Full Benefits if in good standing after a 3-6 month probation period.

Work schedule : Monday - Friday 8 : 30am-2 : 30pm

Responsibilities :

  • Support individuals with disabilities in leading self-directed lives.
  • Supports individual with disabilities in becoming valued members of their communities.
  • Supports behavior that enhances inclusion in their communities.
  • Provide direct training and support in individuals’ home and / or community.
  • Empowers individual and their family by providing the support and information necessary to make informed choices and decisions.
  • Collaborate with individuals and others to plan and implement supports that build upon individual strengths, choices and capabilities.
  • Work with the supervisor on developing and implementing an effective plan, and will ensure compliance with OPWDD regulations, agency policies, and agency values.
  • Use formal and informal methods to learn about the needs, interests and desires of individual.
  • Assists individual in identifying the formal and informal supports available in his / her community, family and social network and works with the individual to develop and sustain relationships with friends, family and community members.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • One year experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Home and Community Based Waiver, and the ability to keep up to date pertaining to such knowledge, and interpret same.
  • Understanding of Person Centered Planning.
  • Reasonable flexibility in work hours and ability to respond to the scheduling needs of the individual.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a working relationship with program participants, families, staff and community agencies.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in written form in English.
  • Ability to organize work with self and others
