About the Unit
The College of Sciences (CoS) cultivates curiosity, encourages exploration, and fosters innovation to develop scientific solutions for a better world.
Our connected community of scientists and mathematicians collaborates across disciplines and challenges to achieve excellence in science, teaching, and research.
Working across six internationally ranked schools with the brightest young minds in our fields, we mentor future leaders to identify and push the frontiers of human knowledge, imagination, and innovation.
CoS's Academic and Research Computing Services (ARCS) unit provides technology services and solutions to support and enhance the College's academic and research mission, addressing instructional, research, and administrative IT needs across all six schools.
Comprised of four highly collaborative directorates, Operations, Infrastructure Engineering, Web Services, and Cybersecurity, ARCS plays a critical role in enabling the College's success.
Job Summary
Provide advanced unit level research IT design, integration, implementation, modification, and support services, typically in an academic or research unit.
Hold the role of a senior level subject matter expert regarding delivery of IT services in support of research and instruction.
Position focuses on maximizing the delivery of high- value consultative services to faculty and their research groups. This position will interact on a consistent basis with : Faculty, staff, students, postdocs, and unit management.

Responsibilities
Job Duty 1 -
Consult with academic and research faculty and administrative leadership; analyze complex needs and requirements for large research groups or instructional labs.
Job Duty 2 -
Design, develop, test, implement and evaluate functional and technical IT system requirements and specifications; provide expert technical advice to research groups.
Job Duty 3 -
Advanced system administration of systems for multiple research groups, including monitoring and ensuring performance and reliability objectives.
Job Duty 4 -
Responsible for the data management and security operation for multiple research groups. Formulate and implement recovery plans including backup;
communicates security and data management practices to end users.
Job Duty 5 -
Responsible for the operational support of a large and diverse set of set of cyber-infrastructure resources (including desktops, workstations, data acquisition systems, and other computational and data resources).
Job Duty 6 -
Perform updates to server and desktop software / applications; recommend and implement replacement, consolidation and / or upgrade of computational and data resources.
Job Duty 7 -
Develop complex scripts or programs to automate monitoring and deployment activities; review source code when appropriate.
Job Duty 8 -
Recommend hardware and software procurements; manage assets for a School or a large number of research groups.
Job Duty 9 -
Develop and recommend standard operating procedures.
Job Duty 10 -
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Other Required Qualifications
Ability to work outside of typical business hours as needed, potentially including but not limited to evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Required Experience
Four to six years of job related experience

SKILLS
- This job requires advanced knowledge and skill in the installation and maintenance of information technology hardware and software at all layers;
- a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures; advanced skills in problem solving, decision making, customer service, system documentation and communications;
familiarity with enterprise systems, networking, security and overall IT architecture including systems management; strong understanding of how to properly secure research workload along with NIST 800-171 I DFARS 7012 compliance issues.
