Provides supports to instructional program with specific responsibilities to support work experience opportunities for students.
Coaches students in becoming more independent in the transition experience. Knowledgeable about the SKEMA (Skills, Knowledge and Experience Assessment)
Incumbents may be assigned to work with 1 to 2 specific students. If that student / s move to a different school, the Para-Pro will be offered the opportunity to move with that student / s.
Should the opportunity be declined, continued employment at the current school will be based on business need.

Job Duty / Resp. 1 :
Assists special education teachers and related staff with the implementation of students’ IEPs, functional behavioral assessments, safety plans, and / or behavior intervention plans for the purpose of supporting lesson plans and / or developing students’ transition skills.
Job Duty / Resp. 2 :
Knowledgeable about implementation of SKEMA and ensuring that training for students revolves around the SKEMA.
Job Duty / Resp. 3 :
Monitors student performance in a variety of work sites according to program guidelines (e.g. visits job sites, obtains employer evaluations, serves as a liaison between employer and student, etc.
for the purpose of identifying areas requiring additional training on techniques and methods for maintaining solid work habits.
Job Duty / Resp. 4 :
Monitors student’s job locations for the purpose of ensuring compliance with pertinent child labor laws, insurance guidelines, and safety.
Job Duty / Resp. 5 :
Monitors, collects and records students’ behavior, work behavior and / or academic performance as directed by the teacher.

Facilitates and models appropriate social interactions and behaviors among students.
Provides training in transition skills (e.g. work requirements, interviewing skills, self-determination, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing their readiness for employment and post-secondary options.

Attends and actively participates in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and understanding of special populations and work-based learning, including training for proper restraint procedures.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Education and Experience Requirements
Education (training / degree) : Required minimum : Associate’s Degree in applicable field of study or 48 hours of college credit hours from an accredited college or university or successful completion of Praxis certification.

Experience : Per TN State requirements, must be at least 21 years of age. Prior experience working with children is preferred.
Skills Required : Proficient in basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrates professionalism and a positive attitude.
Able to maintain confidentiality. Able to operate a mechanic lift.
