Join Our Team as an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist at SDSU!

San Diego State University (SDSU) is looking for a dedicated Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist to join our dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Industrial Hygiene & Occupational Safety : Conduct water intrusion / mold assessments, indoor air quality evaluations, and manage asbestos, lead, and crystalline silica programs.
  • Exposure Monitoring : Oversee chemical and noise exposure assessments to ensure a safe campus environment.
  • Program Support : Assist with medical surveillance, safety training, job hazard assessments, workshop safety inspections, and personal protective equipment management.
  • Policy Development : Work closely with EH&S staff to develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Compliance Assurance : Help assess and ensure campus compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations.

Position Information :

  • Full-time, at-will role, offering comprehensive benefits.
  • Position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health or Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or STEM related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in industrial hygiene, environmental control, occupational safety, or other general health and safety disciplines.

Key Qualifications :

  • Experience performing industrial hygiene evaluations, indoor air quality, mold and asbestos evaluations, and personal protective equipment recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations including but not limited to Cal / OSHA CCR Title 8 Regulations and OSHA CFR Title 29 Part 1910.

Licenses and Certifications :

May be obtained within one year of employment :

Certifications that include training in exposure assessments, hazard assessments, and occupational safety.
