Our client, a worldwide leading engineering and manufacturer of capital equipment for the steel making industry, known for our strengths in mechanical engineering, power electronics, automation, and power system manufacturing, project management and service is hiring for the following position :
Design Engineer - Substation Engineer
Location : Alpharetta, GARequired Travel : 0-60% (Domestic & International)
Education : Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering (preferably in Power Systems) or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of related experience in the field of substations and industrial electrification projects, executing commissioning or field service.
Professional Engineer Certification is an added plus.
Position Overview : Responsible for leading substation engineering for customers across North America. Main responsibilities include leading the electrical protection & control and / or physical layout design deliverables.
Responsibilities :
Area of responsibility is primarily tactical / operational in nature and include :
- Conceptual designs and execution plans for substations and power distribution systems
- Engineering / project cost estimates and schedules
- SLDs, TLDs, Physical substation design including yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC / DC power systems, and associated bills of material
- Protection and control design including panel arrangements, one lines / single lines, three lines, AC schematics, DC elementaries, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring
- Calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC / DC load studies, etc.)
- Equipment specifications for procurement and factory acceptance testing
- Perform quality reviews for engineering work
- Provide short term field support and consulting during construction, installation, commissioning, and startup
- Relay settings, industry / professional technical committee involvement
Required Skills / Knowledge, Education and Experience :
- Professional Engineer registration strongly preferred
- Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI Standard
- Strong preference for those with :
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures, and criteria
- Critical thinking and analytical skills.
