  • SALARY RANGE : $105,000 - $145,000
  • Secret Clearance is preferred

SUMMARY :

As the Construction Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO), you will play a critical role in promoting and maintaining a safe work environment on construction sites in the Northwest region.

Under the guidance of the Senior Construction SSHO, you will assist in implementing safety programs, conducting inspections, and providing safety training to ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and company policies.

Your dedication to safety will contribute to the successful completion of projects while prioritizing the well-being of all personnel.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assist in the development and implementation of site-specific safety and health plans (SSHP) for construction projects in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of construction sites to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and compliance issues.
  • Provide safety training and orientation to workers, subcontractors, and visitors, emphasizing proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations, and take corrective action as necessary to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Participate in accident investigations, document findings, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence of incidents.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with safety requirements, including fall protection, scaffolding, excavation, and electrical safety.
  • Review subcontractors' safety plans and procedures to verify alignment with project requirements and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incidents, and other safety-related activities.
  • Assist in the coordination of safety meetings, toolbox talks, and other safety-related activities to promote awareness and communication of safety issues.
  • Stay informed about changes in safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices, and assist in communicating updates to project teams.

DAILY DUTIES :

  • Conduct daily safety inspections of the construction site to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and non-compliance with safety regulations.
  • Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with project-specific safety plans, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks with construction crews to discuss safety procedures, hazards awareness, and accident prevention.
  • Assist in investigating accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Review and follow up on subcontractor safety plans, work permits, and safety documentation to ensure alignment with project safety requirements.
  • Provide support to subcontractors, construction teams, and project management regarding safety protocols and procedures.
  • Document safety observations, inspections, and incidents using appropriate reporting tools and systems.
  • Assist in conducting safety training sessions for construction personnel on topics such as fall protection, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment (PPE) use.
  • Participate in emergency response procedures and drills to ensure readiness for potential emergencies or accidents on the construction site.
  • Support the dissemination of safety updates, alerts, and reminders to all construction personnel through signage, bulletin boards, and other communication channels.

WEEKLY DUTIES :

  • Assist in reviewing and updating the site-specific safety plan and hazard assessment to address changing site conditions and project activities.
  • Participate in weekly safety audits of construction activities and work areas to verify compliance with safety regulations and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and construction teams to address safety deficiencies and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Attend weekly safety meetings with project management, subcontractors, and client representatives to discuss safety performance, concerns, and initiatives.
  • Assist in reviewing safety-related reports, including incident reports, safety violations, and corrective action plans, to track trends and monitor the effectiveness of safety programs.
  • Support the conduct of job hazard analysis (JHA) and safety risk assessments for new tasks or activities to identify potential hazards and develop mitigation measures.
  • Assist in updating safety training records and certifications for construction personnel to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and project safety standards.
  • Assist in safety equipment inspections and maintenance checks to ensure proper functioning and availability of safety devices and PPE.
  • Support coordination efforts with project management and subcontractors to address safety-related issues raised by regulatory agencies or client representatives during inspections or audits.

MONTHYLY DUTIES

  • Assist in compiling monthly safety performance metrics, including leading and lagging indicators, to assess the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives.
  • Support the review and analysis of incident and injury data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement in safety performance.
  • Assist in developing and implementing monthly safety training plans and schedules to address specific training needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in monthly safety reviews of subcontractor safety performance and adherence to safety requirements outlined in their contracts.
  • Support the preparation of monthly safety reports and presentations for project management and client representatives to communicate safety performance, initiatives, and achievements.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, and first aid protocols based on lessons learned from safety incidents and drills.
  • Support coordination efforts with project management to conduct monthly safety walkthroughs with client representatives and regulatory agencies.
  • Attend monthly safety committee meetings to discuss safety concerns, initiatives, and opportunities for improving safety culture and performance on the construction site.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS :

  • Compliance with Safety Regulations : Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local safety regulations on construction sites.
  • Incident Reporting and Investigation : Promptly report and investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and provide recommendations for preventive measures.
  • Safety Training Effectiveness : Evaluate the effectiveness of safety training programs and ensure personnel demonstrate understanding of safety procedures.
  • Hazard Identification and Control : Identify hazards and unsafe conditions on construction sites and take proactive measures to mitigate risks.
  • Safety Culture Promotion : Actively promote a positive safety culture among workers and subcontractors through training, communication, and leadership.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

The Construction SSHO does not typically have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance and oversight to subcontractor safety representatives and other personnel as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field (preferred)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification (preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction safety or related field
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (Safety Boots, Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, High Visibility Vest)
  • Travel required
