Job Description

The Legal Counsel is a critical hire for a financial services client based in the Greater Boston Area.

Main Responsibilities :

  • Advise on the planning and analysis of client estates and trust administration
  • Work directly with high-net worth individuals to advise on all trust and estate planning matters for both irrevocable and revocable trusts
  • Review the current status of trusts and estate plans based on current documentation
  • Provide sophisticated business succession strategies for clients
  • Advise individuals and families on trust structures and private client tax matters
  • Manage outside counsel on the drafting of various documents
  • Work closely with internal clients, including Tax, Compliance, etc.
  • Stay abreast of relevant laws and regulations surrounding family office and trusts and estates matters
  • Work closely with senior management on other projects as needed

The Successful Applicant

  • JD from an accredited law school; LLM in Tax a plus
  • Current admission to MA or NH State Bar
  • Minimum of eight years' experience in the Trust & Estates group of a top law firm, ideally combined with in-house experience gained at a family / multifamily office or trust company
  • The ideal candidate would have experience working with ultra high net-worth / HNW individuals in estate planning, trust administration and probate matters
  • Experience and understanding of New Hampshire T&E laws and regulations is preferred
  • Experience as a Trust Officer is a nice to have
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to multi-task and work independently
  • Must have experience working with a diverse high net worth client base within the trust and estates field
  • Must have experience interacting directly with clients on a daily basis, understanding the nuances of family office work
