Under the direction of the Chicago Service Manager, the In-House Service Technician performs basic / routine in-house service and repair of cryogenic components within established turnaround times using departmentally established policies and procedures and ensures SCAI and Customer quality standards are met.

The In-House Service Technician position utilizes a variety of hand tools and precision measuring instruments; fits and assembles precision parts into equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required;

checks and inspects testing machinery against specified tolerances; and may identify and repair minor machine malfunctions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs in-house service & repair including :
  • Maintains, modifies, repairs, tests and assembles cryogenic components within departmentally established turnaround times.
  • Investigates anomalies through performance of operational tests and fault isolation on equipment; troubleshoots and resolves operational issues in a timely manner.
  • Tests cryogenic components using established processes to ensure components meet company and customer quality standards;

documents test results accordingly.

  • Updates and maintains equipment logs and spare parts inventory as required.
  • Prepares and submits reports within a timely manner.
  • Uses necessary hand and power tools, such as hand press, ultrasonic cleaner, ohm and volt meter, etc.
  • Reads and interprets assembly drawings, sketches or verbal instructions, and performs necessary mathematics for proper and accurate assembly and alignment of components.
  • Fits, attaches and assembles by threading, brazing, structure and tube welding, soldering, bending or grinding. Perform static pressure tests and flow measurements accurately as required during assembly, development operation, run-in, and as a functional check.
  • Prepares cryogenic components for shipping.
  • Installs electrical and / or electronic components, parts, and sub-assemblies. Installs instrumentation leads, pickups and readout devices.
  • Diagnoses and corrects electrical malfunctions. Evaluates results using electrical measuring instruments.
  • Uses, calibrates and maintains gauges and instruments.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs equipment where electrical and / or electronic equipment malfunctions may occur.
  • Performs assignments, working from drawings, sketches or verbal instructions.
  • Inspects parts, assemblies, and finished products manufactured and / or purchased to ensure they conform to drawings and / or specifications.

  • Represents company in a manner that reflects positively on its image and reputation
  • Completes safety training, complies with the safety program, and supports ISO requirements.
  • Follows all service guidelines and records service activity in the Quality System.
  • Creates a safety first culture, consistent with company safety initiatives and policies.
  • Prepares reports as necessary and in a timely manner; Performs administrative activities associated with customer operations including service record updates, documentation and reporting.
  • Follows all company policies and expectations and behaves in a manner that promotes the Company’s values and positively effects morale.
  • Possesses a passion and skill in creating value for customers and champions this internally within SCAI Service and the overall company.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization with assigned company tools.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High school diploma / GED is required.
  • One (1) year hands-on work experience performing complex assembly work is highly preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of mechanical tools and service test equipment; mechanical and electrical aptitude is required.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination, vision and manual dexterity to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • Requires a working knowledge of arithmetic. Initiates and / or completes necessary quality records, test data, and other associated paperwork required to accomplish acceptance, rejection, and movement of material.
  • Able to work to close dimensional tolerances using precision tools.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to comfortably perform repetitive work.
  • Able to stand at workbenches / workstations for long periods (up to 8 hours per day)
  • Able to comfortably and safely operate equipment or machinery.
  • Able to safely meet the physical demands listed below with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to read and work from a blue print as well as interpret assembly drawings, manufacturing procedures and verbal instructions
  • Able to calibrate and maintain gauge tools and instruments.
  • Must be able to work both individually and in an established team setting;
  • Able to read, write and comprehend documents written in English.
  • Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions and drawings in English.
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Able to work under supervision and use own initiative.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work effectively.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality regarding proprietary company information
  • Able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship

Travel

Position requires little to no travel.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully and safely perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Position requires ability to move components or parts weighing in excess of 100 pounds (refer to table below for weight frequency);
  • Position requires the ability to work at heights (such as scaffolding or ladders).
  • Position requires the ability to regularly bend / twist (at the neck), stand, push / pull and / or reach (below shoulder height).
  • Position requires frequent walking and repetitive foot movement.
  • Position requires the ability to occasionally twist (at the neck), bend or twist (at the waist), reach (above shoulder height), squat, climb, and / or kneel.
  • Manual dexterity and ability to manipulate small objects is required. Position requires regular repetitive (hand) movement.
  • Normal range of hearing and vision are required to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.
