GENERAL PURPOSE

This position is responsible for directing and supervising department personnel and all associated activities. Implement Lean manufacturing systems and strategy to ensure a safe work environment, maximize profitable growth, drive quality improvements, provide exceptional customer service, develop a technically qualified work force, reduce operating costs and lead times through continuous improvements.

Oversee day-to-day activities to meet daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly expectations.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Schedule production floor work according to job priorities and reevaluate the work load numerous times throughout the shift
  • Operate production machines and test equipment. Check operator paperwork for correctness
  • Monitor hourly machine performance and quality output.
  • Inspect finished product for defects, test to make sure material meets design specifications.
  • Enforce safety rules, PPE adherence and environmental regulations
  • Perform lab testing on incoming materials to ensure specifications are met.
  • Ensure that products are made to print and are held to the highest quality standards
  • Ensure that all operators are following the proper processes and procedures that are required in the performance of their daily duties
  • Lead daily production meeting and provide status updates shift performance and task completion.
  • Review, update and manage the production floor employee’s Time & Attendance records in the Time Management System
  • Work with the Planning team to investigate inventory discrepancies and help identify the root cause for the discrepancy, and then implement procedural changes to eliminate these root cause issues
  • Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve shop floor metrics
  • Responsible for all aspects of performance management including interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluations, and recognition
  • Provide effective, constructive and appropriate feedback and leadership to direct reports to foster positive, team atmosphere
  • Ensure personal and professional development of direct reports
  • Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or concerns
  • Initiate and assist with the creation, development, and implementation of processes and procedures
  • Conduct daily safety checks, weekly safety meetings and participate in safety committee audits
  • Understand workplace hazards and take steps to proactively prevent and report hazards or injuries in the workplace. Cooperate in Safety Programs, initiatives, and investigations

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :

  • Proven ability to manage people; train and motivate employees, as well as delegate effectively
  • Dependable and enthusiastic with the ability to use good judgment, work independently with minimal direction, and possess a strong initiative and positive attitude
  • Ability to thrive and perform well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interpret standards, specifications, procedures, drawings, etc.
  • Understanding of MRP inputs and outputs
  • Proven ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form
  • Must possess high degree of professionalism and ability to handle confidential information
  • Must be detailed orientated and have excellent follow-through skills
  • Proven ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation or government law
  • Strong metric focus
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers, internet and Microsoft Office suite of software including Word, Excel and Outlook (or related e-mail system)
  • High math aptitude
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently

Minimum Education and Experience Required :

  • A minimum of (2) years of supervisory / management experience in a manufacturing environment or combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Previous experience with ERP systems

Special Job Requirements :

  • Ability to work long hours and weekends as required to support the core business needs
  • Generate standard work instructions and process documentation.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Project management and planning skills
  • A bachelor’s degree with (2) years of supervisory / management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • SAP Knowledge
  • Production Planning system experience
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and problem-solving tools

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, reach above shoulder level, reach below knee level, bend / twist / stoop, squat / kneel, climb, and regularly lift / carry, up to 60 lbs.

and occasionally up to 75 lbs. as needed. Also may include pushing / pulling up to 100 lbs. Regularly requires coordinated movements of the fingers for data entry on a keyboard.

  • Steel-toed shoes are required for working in this position
  • Regular shop assembly / distribution center environment
