Holy Family School in South Bend is in search of a qualified Jr. High Science
teacher with a focus on project based instruction. The ideal candidate will be
faith-filled and dedicated to providing quality instruction for students of all
abilities integrating the mission of Holy Family School and the Diocese of Fort
Wayne / South Bend in all planning, teaching, and classroom activities to benefit
students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.
Job Responsibilities Include :
- Homeroom teacher for a 7th grade class.
- Responsible for enforcing the school’s discipline policies and
demonstrating effective classroom management with regards to
student organization, behavior, and transitions throughout the day.
- Maintaining school records as required by the diocese and state.
- Communicating regularly and effectively with parents regarding all
aspects of school life for this group of students.
Working cooperatively with administrators, Jr. High teaching team,
other staff, and parents on various school-wide initiatives, projects,
and field trips.
Prepares lesson plans and teaches in assigned subject area and grade level in
accordance with state and diocesan guidelines. Holy Family uses a
combination of FOSS and PLTW Gateway Curriculum Kits.
Willingness to complete 40 hours of training in PLTW Gateway
Instructional Areas for content certification.
Responsible for organizing and leading 6th grade students in
completion of Science Fair Projects during 3rd quarter.
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Recognizes the variety of student learning styles and facilitates learning by
adapting instructional methods and teaching materials to student needs.
- Uses various assessments to measure student growth.
- Regularly enters grades and monitors student academic progress via
PowerSchool software.
- Commits to ongoing faith formation and professional growth.
- Fosters the spiritual development of students by modeling Catholic doctrine,
values, and morals.
Education, Experience and Skills Required :
Indiana teaching license in appropriate grade level / teaching area; or
demonstrated eligibility to receive license.
- High level thinking and problem solving skills.
- Adherence to school wide safety plans while conducting science
demonstrations and experiments.
- Ability to speak and write fluently and grammatically correct English.
- Strong written, verbal presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements :
- Regularly required to walk up and down multiple flights of stairs,
- Stand for 30 minutes at a time,
- Operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment.
- Must occasionally lift and / or move up to 10 pounds.
