At Houston Methodist the Lead OperationsAdministrator (OA) position is responsible for providingoperational oversight and leadership throughout the organizationleading initiatives as directed by management.

This position isalso responsible for oversight and scheduling of the Labor Pool fortheir entity. The Lead OA position is responsible for leadingdirection in unforeseen situations making timely decisions thatdirectly impact patient care fosteringinterdepartmental / interprofessional collaboration which reflect themission and values of Houston Methodist.

This position role modelsand ensures timely and effective oral / written communication andprovides clinical guidance in the management of patient carestaffing and interpreting and implementing established policies andprocedures.

The Lead OA position demonstrates critical thinkingthrough selfdirection initiative effective interpersonal skillscreating an environment for the management and delivery of safepatient care.

PEOPLE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Activelyparticipates in the interviewing process of candidates in OAposition. Coordinates the orientation schedule of newly hired OA.

Collaborates in the preparation of annual evaluations withsupporting physician and management personnel to ensure allpaperwork in in compliance with HR andpolicies.

Trains newemployees hired for the Operations Administrator role. Assignsavailable personnel assesses triage assignments and makesappropriate modifications during the shift as necessary.

Plans andcoordinates staffing needs for the next shift and assesses needsfor the followingshift.

Role models fairand consistent leadership skills for effective team dynamics andteambuilding strategies through problem resolution and coaching.

Supports policy adherence and provides disciplinary measures whenappropriate.

Role modelsinterprofessional communication which includes active listening andteaching communicating organizational information and all aspectsof administrative and clinical practice in a respectful andpositive way when interacting with staff.

Assists with staff stressmanagement as needed. Drives improvement of initiatives fordepartment score for employeeengagement.

SERVICEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Coordinates andexpedites the admission / discharge transfer and bed control processto optimize patient flow. Monitors and facilitates smooth andtimely patient flow to ensure process efficiency.

Provides bedassignments support as needed withdesignee.

Providesoversight and scheduling of the Labor Pool. Oversees the activityin hospital operations during their shift. Manages administrativeissues effectively informs and documents pertinent information toExecutiveOnCall executive staff directors and managers.

Partnerswith public relations to manage outsidemedia.

Troubleshootsproblems and / or issues regarding patient / family care visitors andfacility issues on off shifts and weekends.

Drives servicestandards and activities to improve department score for patientsatisfaction through role modeling and fosteringaccountability.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Monitorsand analyzes work methods staff scheduling and make appropriateadjustments to assure a high level of service quality and costeffectiveness
  • Maintainsawareness / responsiveness of all emergency codes and disasterpreparedness coordinating when critical situations occur.

Rolemodels situational awareness using teachable moments to improvesafety.

Participatesand / or leads and facilitates department processimprovements.

FINANCEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Attendsdaily care coordination rounds to facilitate patient progression.Manages bed closures and staffing allocation / cancellations tooptimize efficiencies and reduceovertime.
  • Providesoversight of the department schedule and timekeeping. Implementsdepartment strategies to achieve financial target and staffingneeds.

Mentors others to do the same through timely documentationof care decreasing length of stay optimizing efficiency minimizingincidental overtime and other areas asappropriate.

Measures andanalyzes resource allocation based on department and organizationalneeds. Identifies cost saving or revenueopportunities.

GROWTH / INNOVATIONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Generates andcommunicates new ideas to lead team to creative strategies thatimprove quality or service and impact the facility and addressorganization or department priorities.

Actively participates inhospital quality service and shared governance councils. Supportschange initiatives and adapts to unexpectedchanges.

Seeksopportunities to identify developmental needs of self and staff andtakes appropriate action. Ensures own career discussions occur withappropriate management.

Completes and updates the My DevelopmentPlan on an ongoing basis.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelorsdegree or higher from an accredited school ofnursing.
  • Masters degreepreferred

WORKEXPERIENCE

Five yearshospital experience in nursing; for HM internal four yearsexperience in nursing which includes HM performance thatdemonstrates progressive leadership abilities i.

e. charge nurseresponsibilities.

OneyearHM Operations Administratorexperience

LICENSES ANDCERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • RNRegistered Nurse Texas State Licensure and / or Compact StateLicensure within 60 days OR
  • RNTemp Registered NurseTemporary State Licensure within 60 days AND
  • BLS Basic Life Support(AHA) AND
  • NVCRISISNonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) AND
  • Magnet ANCC RecognizedCertification

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ANDABILITIES
