The Recreational / Vocational coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordinating, and directing of a wide and varied scope of activities and programming which meet the spiritual, cultural, emotional, intellectual, vocational, social, physical, and environmental needs of the youth in care.

The Recreational / Vocational coordinator is assigned to meet the needs, and to develop vocational curriculum, recreation and leisure plans, acculturation services, and celebration of cultural-specific events and holidays.

Overall, the Recreational / Vocational coordinator supports the Direct Care Department by scheduling, coordinating, supervising, and developing all the events and documentation of all activities after educational hours and weekends.

Essential Functions :

  • Plan, schedule and coordinate recreational opportunities for the service population.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment for the service while they are engaged in activities under the direction of this position.
  • Frequently traverse from one location to another. Supervise all assigned areas by moving around the facility and ensuring the proper curriculum is being followed by assigned youth care workers.
  • Meet all deadlines required by program supervisor and federal partners.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English and Spanish.

Other Functions :

  • Coordinate ORR activities including but not limited to : group, physical, vocational, and recreational activities.
  • Develop and implement a monthly recreational activity calendar both at and away from the facility.
  • Ensure that needed recreational supplies and equipment are available for recreational activities.
  • Identify, recruit, and maintain commitment from community partners.
  • Coordinate volunteer participation, including church group volunteers, in recreational activities.
  • Provide clear verbal directions and guidelines during recreational activities.
  • Document each child’s progress in recreational activities in monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Assist staff with supervision of the service population during recreational activities.
  • Supervise direct care staff during off-campus recreational outings.
  • Use appropriate and positive child management techniques including verbal redirection, de-escalation and physical containment.
  • Survey service population quarterly to determine level of satisfaction and ways to improve this service, implements appropriate suggestions.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings, team decisions and operations.
  • Work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed or requested by position supervisor.
  • Implement CFRC safety protocols including evacuating with children and other staff, in case of an emergency.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the service population and program operations.
  • Maintain DSS-CFRC professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in CFRC employee handbook including demonstrating respect for agency staff, the service population, and community members and complying with required dress code at all times.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associate degree or higher preferred
  • 2-5 Years of ORR experience or of progressive employment experience in the behavioral sciences, human services, or social services field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Proficiency in SharePoint and OneDrive
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Extensive experience with data entry, record keeping and computer operation
  • Possess superior oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions / Physical Effort

The Recreational / Vocational Coordinator is required to maintain a flexible, organized, and efficient work schedule and is subject to work extended hours, weekends, and be on-call.

Travel as needed for trainings, conferences or to transport youth to destinations located within the U.S.

Work is performed mostly in a residential facility setting. Some overnight travel, public speaking, evening and weekend work are requirements of the position.

Regular computer works also required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit;

finger, handle, or feel objects, or controls; reach; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 30 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
