The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences in the College of Humanities and Sciences is

comprised of 17 full-time faculty engaged in an array of clinical, applied, and interdisciplinary

endeavors. The undergraduate program, which make-up the 3rd largest undergraduate program at

VCU, consist of concentrations in Exercise Science and Health Sciences, attracting a diverse

body, whereas more than 65% of our students are racially and ethnically diverse and / or members

of other diverse groups. The graduate programs include a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health

Behavior Coaching, a MS in Health and Movement Science and a PhD in Rehabilitation and

Position Responsibilities :

Teach undergraduate and / or graduate courses in Health Science : includes the following course

HPEX 355 : School and Community Health Resources

HPEX 356 : Community Health Education and Promotion : Theory and Practice

HPEX 357 : Personal Health and Behavior Change

HPEX 358 : Introduction to Epidemiology

HPEX 435 : Health Disparities in the U.S.

HPEX 445 : Principles of Health Care Management

HPEX 450 : Program Planning and Evaluation

HEMS 640 : Health Care Organization and Delivery in the U.S.

HEMS 641 : Human Disease Prevention, Prevalence and Lifestyle Risk Factors

HEMS 642 : Theoretical Foundations of Health Behavior Change

HEMS 643 : Fundamentals of Motivational Interviewing

HEMS 644 : Advanced Motivational Interviewing

HEMS 645 : Application of Motivational Interviewing in Clinical Settings

HEMS 646 : Application of Motivational Interviewing in Group / Community Settings

HEMS 647 : Concepts and Applications in Chronic Disease Self-Management

HEMS 648 : Health Behavior Change Counseling Techniques for Clinical Interventions

HEMS 649 : Planning, Implementing and Evaluating Group / Community-focused Health Behavior

Change Interventions

Required Qualifications :

Earned Master's Degree in Health Science or related field for undergraduate course;

Earned Doctoral Degree in Health Science or related field for graduate course; competence in

teaching undergraduate / graduate courses in content areas listed above. Faculty member must have

demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment

or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications :

Record of teaching in higher education with positive course evaluations.
