Overview
Prosecuting Attorney role at NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC). The TLC regulates New York City's taxicab and for-hire vehicle industry, licenses and regulates vehicles, drivers, taxicab agents, and for-hire vehicle bases, and enforces agency and administrative code regulations to support public safety in New York City.
The Prosecution Division investigates and prosecutes all TLC-issued summonses, including administrative, field, and consumer-initiated complaints. Prosecuting Attorneys represent TLC in cases heard before the Hearings Division of the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings, gaining hands-on litigation experience as they rotate through assignments such as Consumer Intake, Settlements, Hearings and Appeals.
Responsibilities
- Managing a daily caseload and independently representing the Taxi and Limousine Commission at administrative hearings, including preparing and presenting witnesses and evidence at trial.
- Evaluating case strengths and weaknesses to negotiate plea and settlement agreements with respondents and / or their attorneys or representatives.
- Interviewing consumer complainants to obtain details and determine charging violations and settlement offers.
- Reviewing hearing dispositions for summonses dismissed at OATH; drafting appeals and Chair petitions when appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
Admission to the New York State Bar; and either one year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar, or six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of employment.Additional Information
