About The Position
Job Title : Surgical Technologist I Job Specialty : Surgical Services Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Days 5x8 Hr Guaranteed Hours : 40.
00 Experience : 0-3 years License : None Required Certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider Must-Have : - Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program;
OR - Graduate of a Military Training Program in Surgical Technology; OR - Formal education / training may be substituted for individuals with 3+ years of prior experience as a surgical tech Job Description : Perform technical skills in all operating room specialty service areas, ensuring proper technical practices according to accepted standards.
- Provide maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques of specialty instrumentation.- Follow aseptic technique, identifying contamination and / or breaks in technique and implementing corrective actions.
- Perform surgical counts and follow policies and procedures for incorrect counts, reporting discrepancies appropriately.
- Label drugs and solutions, monitoring quantities used.- Assist in the proper identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
- Actively participate in the planning and setup of instruments, supplies, and drapes to provide optimal accessibility during procedures.
- Assist the surgeon with an understanding of the patient’s anatomy and abnormalities affecting the procedure.- Assist in picking cases and planning instrument needs.
- Modify scrubbing procedures based on pertinent information to adjust standard care approaches and communicate with the surgical team.
- Respond to surgical emergencies, following hospital-wide emergency management plans.- Inventory, receive, and store supplies under the direction of Surgical Services leadership.
- Identify and report defective instruments, supplies, and equipment.- Assist with restocking operating / procedure rooms and sub-sterile areas.
- Assist the registered nurse during the intraoperative phase of nursing practice.- Operate complex equipment in the operating room, troubleshooting as necessary.
- Serve as a mentor for Surgical Technician Trainees and serve as a preceptor as needed.
