Deputy Associate Laboratory Director Dald For Science & Technology
Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for the position of Deputy Associate Laboratory Director DALD for Science & Technology, at the Photon Sciences Directorate (PSC) of Argonne National Laboratory. PSC is home to the Advanced Photon Source (APS), the leading high-brightness hard x-ray synchrotron light source in the world, and one of the large-scale scientific user facilities funded by Basic Energy Sciences in the Office of Science of the Department of Energy. PSC is also developing new accelerator technologies for future light sources. The APS facility has 72 experimental facilities that attract more than 5,000 unique scientific users each year carrying out research in various disciplines in the natural sciences. The APS is one of the most productive large scale user facilities in the world, with more than 40,000 publications to date, many societal impacts and operating in direct support of the nation's economic competitiveness. The facility recently completed a major accelerator upgrade to a 4th generation storage ring that will deliver world-leading X-ray brightness. The upgrade is also transforming our X-ray research capabilities by delivering 9 new beamlines and upgrades to 14 of our existing beamlines.
The DALD is responsible for the science and R&D strategic programs in PSC and oversees the strategic partnership program including scientific and technology partnerships with the existing Collaborative Access Teams of the APS. They are responsible for developing future programs and setting up new initiatives sponsored by DOE office of science and other DOE departments, or in collaboration with other federal agencies or sponsors. The DALD is a member of the APS senior management team, contributing to the strategy of PSC and the APS and broader R&D directions supported at the laboratory level. The DALD is working closely with the Argonne Accelerator Institute to support new R&D initiatives relevant to photon sciences. They will also work in close partnership with their counterparts in other Argonne science directorates and the Argonne Science & Technology Partnership and Outreach Directorate (STPO) to strengthen industrial access to the APS and possibly develop joint public / partnership initiatives in support of the DOE mission.
