Major Duties

  • Maintain working knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations, codes and / or statues associated with federal accounting and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), remains up to date on changes in those laws, rules, regulations, codes, and / or statues.
  • Oversee the preparation and production of the FBI’s quarterly Financial Statement submissions, including maintaining general ledger and financial statement tools for consistency with financial reporting guidance and managing the financial reporting schedule.
  • Manage the timely submission of various monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports and data calls, to include Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) Statement of Federal Financial Accounting Standard internal assessments;

assists in improving financial reporting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Performs a variety of highly complex duties relative to the maintenance, analysis, balancing, and reporting of appropriation and other funding accounts maintained in the FBI's Unified Financial Management System, with emphasis given to analysis and reporting relative to the General Ledger activity.
  • Performs a wide variety of general accounting functions, including preparation and review of journal entries; posts sub ledgers to the general ledger;
  • month, quarter, and year-end closing processes; maintains fixed asset ledgers; conducts various account reconciliations;
  • oversees the creation of tax payments and documents; monitors fund balance; manages the timely submission of various monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports and data calls;

assists in improving financial reporting policies and procedures.

Maintains effective and ongoing liaison and communication with FBI stakeholders, DOJ, Treasury, external auditors, and others;

facilitates effective coordination and collaboration with other FBI units, sections, and divisions.

Specialized Experience (SE) :

GS14 : Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level. SE is defined as follows :

  • Experience designing, developing, operating, or inspecting accounting systems.
  • Knowledge in prescribing accounting standards, policies, and requirements.
  • Experience conducting management studies of accounting systems to ensure compliance with Federal, State, or local regulations.
  • Advising managers on the accounting aspects of agency operations.
  • Experience in financial statements disclosures.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and assessing internal control processes and systems.

Desired Skills :

  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Certified Government Financial Manager
