Sr. Lead Kubernetes Engineer

TIAA has an opportunity for a Sr. Lead Kubernetes Engineer. This role will be a key player within our agile Kubernetes Product team.

This role will design, implement, and maintain applications using the Kubernetes platform. This position will ensure the company's infrastructure is dependable, efficient, and can manage changes in demand.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable Kubernetes infrastructure.
• Collaborate with development teams to containerize applications and deploy them on Kubernetes.
• Optimize Kubernetes cluster performance, resource utilization, and cost-effectiveness.
• Implement and manage monitoring, logging, alerting solutions for Kubernetes environments.
• Ensure the security of Kubernetes clusters by following best practices and implementing security controls.
• Automate Kubernetes deployment and management processes using infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, VRA, Ansible, and other automation tools.

This includes automating networking and O / S configuration, building images, configuring file system layouts, and automating BGP peering through CRI, CNI, and CSI configuration for Kubernetes clusters.

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Kubernetes infrastructure and deployments.
• Stay up to date with Kubernetes ecosystem developments and propose improvements.
• Automate the installation, upgrade, scaling, and management of a large and rapidly growing fleet of Kubernetes clusters.

Develop custom platform control plane webhooks, CRDs, and operators to provide a secure, opinionated platform.

• Experience of setting up a new development project using modern tools and practices including git, GitLab actions, Jenkins, test-driven development, and continuous integration in a Linux-based environment
• Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications, ensuring design constraints are met by software code development.
• Contribute to a team culture that values diversity, equity, inclusion.

Required :

• Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a Kubernetes engineer
• Deep understanding of Kubernetes concepts, components, and APIs.'
• Hands-on experience with container technologies (Docker, containerd) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Helm).
• Proficiency in infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
• Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
• Strong programming skills in one of more languages (e.g., Python, React, Java).
• Familiarity with Kubernetes Infrastructure Automation and GitOps principles.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Experience of working with RESTful APIs, especially to manage and configure compute and storage infrastructure.
• Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Experience with modern private and public cloud infrastructure platforms such as Kubernetes, AWS EKS, Terraform, Ansible, and other automation tools.
• Experience in developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment with one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages.
• Ability to independently tackle design and functionality problems with little to no oversight.
• Practical cloud-native experience.

Preferred :

• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) certifications.
• Knowledge of serverless computing frameworks (i.e., cloud-native, AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions).
• Familiarity with multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud environments. Experience in infrastructure architecture design.
• Experience with one programming language.
• Experience with AWS EKS, OpenShift ecosystems is a plus.
• Knowledge of industry-wide technology trends and best practices.

Base Pay Range : $123,500 / yr. - $205,000 / yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.

In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
