Job Summary :
The Retail Zone Manager is the highest-ranking operational leader in the Texas Petroleum Group New Mexico network consisting of 37 stores.
The Retail Zone Manager is responsible for delighting the customer with the best convenience retail experience via a strong emphasis on operations excellence and efficiency.
This critical role is responsible for the delivery of the financial plan by executing against the retail strategy for New Mexico.
The ideal candidate will be an outstanding leader who excels in personnel development from the store flood to territory managers.
They deeply understand retail operations, including alcohol compliance and food service. They are a seasoned leader with a passion for developing people and are responsible for maintaining a robust succession management plan.
Direct Reports : Five Territory Managers.
This position will manage the day-to-day workload of the New Mexico Territory Managers.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Directly responsible for managing the license to operate through assurance that retail stations are safe, in good working order, and compliant with local law.
- Collaborates with Maintenance, Fuels Supply, Marketing, and HSSE to ensure stores are safe, clean, well presented, and delight customers.
- Will manage the operations of the standard operating procedures for retail stores, including POS, labor planning, loss prevention, sales floor best practices, and food service excellence.
- Drives continuous improvement with a strong appreciation for analytics in performance management.
- Directly responsible for developing the annual budgets and delivering within the plan for profit and expenses.
- Develops the competency requirements of all Operations staff from retail staff members, to marketing, store, and territory managers.
- Understanding of marketing, supply chain and shrink management in the retail sector.
- Liaise with marketing for promotional strategy, planograms, store formatting, and new shop design standards.
- Prioritize work based on maximizing revenue, safety, operational requirements, and budget for optimal outcomes.
- Identifies and sponsors / empowers improvement continuous improvement for better service, lower cost, quicker delivery, and / or improved safety performance.
- Support innovation by being closely aligned with emerging technologies.
Required Skills / Abilities :
- Strong delivery mindset.
- Proven leadership, and adaptability, with outstanding communication skills.
- Expert in co-developing and planning & delivering the P&L.
- Deep convenience retail experience demonstrated by a long track record of performance in the industry.
- Proven leadership ability in managing skilled workers.
- Demonstrated competency in behavioral-based safety.
- Resilience, courage, and the willingness to challenge and manage business expectations.
- Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suites
Education and Experience :
- A degree in business or marketing is preferred. Relevant industry certifications will be considered in lieu of secondary education.
- Certification in Lean Continuous Improvement or Total Quality Management, a plus.
Physical Requirements :
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, stretching, reaching, and walking.
