The Maryland Port Administration (MPA) is a 216-employee transportation business unit within the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and is the public face of the Port of Baltimore.

MPA was created by the Maryland General Assembly to increase waterborne commerce through the ports in the state. The Port of Baltimore plays an integral role as an economic generator and job creator, in addition to maintaining our nation’s supply chain and moving vital goods to industries and consumers.

General Role Description :

MPA is seeking a motivated, positive, and driven Area Construction Engineer professional to join the Engineering Division.

The primary responsibility of this position is to design and develop construction scheduling and maintenance activities within MPA in accordance with Generally Accepted Engineering practices and principles.

Some of the essential duties of this position include but are not limited to the following :

  • Monitor terminal construction activities performed by all MPA divisions.
  • Monitor design schedules, develop construction scheduling.
  • Estimate construction workdays for various projects.
  • Monitor maintenance activities.
  • Identify, document, and coordinate activity conflicts with MPA Engineering projects and other MPA divisions.
  • Develop and manage standard engineering specifications, scheduling criteria, catalog engineering criteria, and engineering estimating standards.
  • Active participation in sequencing of projects during design, review of permitting restrictions, and estimating construction activity timeframes.

This position reports directly to the Deputy Director of Engineering Business & Technology.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

Education : Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience : Seven (7) years' experience in professional engineering.

Notes :

1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

2. Possession of a Master's Degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the non-supervisory experience.

3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.

Licenses & Certifications

Employees in this class may be required to possess a Professional Engineer, Land Surveyor, or Property Line Surveyor License.

A current motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland is required for this position. The applicable fields on this application regarding your Driver's License are required on this application for position eligibility.
