Lead Med Lab Scientist FT Days Position Summary
Senior Medical Tech trains and mentors staff. Coordinates the scheduling and efforts of the Medical Technologist staff. Position works in one or more areas of the clinical laboratory.
Assists in instructing other personnel as assigned. Performs with perceptive depth of clinical laboratory tests and procedures which require the expertise of independent judgment and responsibility.
Assures that the highest degree of quality patient care is maintained at all times.
SPECIAL SKILLS : Demonstrated professional development over time. Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to effectively implement change and manage departmental budgets. Must be able to independently make decisions in high-stress situations.
Minimal degree of supervision required. Computer skills required.
THE LEAD MED LAB SCIENTIST FT DAYS CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE / CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE.
MINIMUM EDUCATION : Associates Degree or qualified as a Medical Technologist under HHS and Qualified to perform highly complex testing per CLIA 88 personnel guidelines.
PREFERRED EDUCATION : BS Medical Technology
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE : Three years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE : Management experience.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURE : Currently registered or eligible for ASCP (MT or MLT), NCA, AMT, HHS / HEW. If Eligible registry must be obtained within one-year of hire.

Processes and tests specimens, reviews and reports lab results, and performs operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
Acts as resource to other laboratory personnel. Provides direction to other laboratory staff that may include medical laboratory technicians and technologists.
Will provide input on staff evaluations as requested. Maintains complete and up-to-date procedures manuals. Achieves ongoing compliance with regulatory agencies.
In high volume core laboratories, will work in multiple departments / sections or multiple facilities within a market, as requested.
Completes other duties assigned by laboratory supervisor or director. Will serve as point of care coordinator for non-laboratory tests, as requested.
Education :
Required : Bachelor’s degree from an approved college or university and / or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.
1489 or have qualified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on an HHS examination before 2 / 28 / 92 42 CFR 493.
1491. The above meets the required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489 and 42 CFR 493.1491).
Experience :
Required : 3 years as a medical technologist in acute care facility with demonstration of increasing responsibilities
Certifications :
Required : Registered with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or CSMLS within 12 months of hire). Equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES or AICE for non-US trained personnel must be completed within 30 days of hire.
Licensure, as required by State.
